Screwed in Morgantown

I'll say this...nothing I saw our of our defense today says we would have kept West Virginia from scoring a play or two later on their drives with their two botched-call TDs. But the Hall fumble call was as egregious as that taunting call from a week ago. That's the stuff that should get officials demoted.

Agree on the out of bounds TD catch. But the missed delay of game WAS a 4th down call. It goes from 4th and 2 to 4th and 7, and a clear passing down. I think either WVU kicks the FG there, or we play better d knowing it's a pass situation.

Right. Our pass D was stellar all day. No reason to think we wouldn’t have stopped them.

This was like one of those early bowl games, where a G5 officiating crew gets matched up in a bowl game between two P5 teams & you can tell that the game is moving way too fast for the officials to process . I cannot believe that the crew in today's game somehow got a job in a Power 5 conference.

Two glaring calls stick out to me:

1. The "fumble" on the touchdown run was never signaled on the field. The only signal on the field was a touchdown by the line judge on the ISU sideline. Then the ref comes out & announces that the call on the field was a fumble/touchback. How is it a touchback? For it to be a touchback, the ball would have to go out of bounds from the endzone, or WVU player would have to hold the ball & kneel. The terrible TV announcers were equally bamboozled as they were looking for Hall's knee down. The ball crossed the goal line in the hands of the runner who was not down. As soon as that ball crosses the goal line, "breaking the plane", a TD has been scored & the play is dead. The ball carrier does not have to continue to control the ball any further than the goal line. (This was eerily similar to David Montgomery's "fumble" in the Liberty Bowl.)

2. The second dubious call that had huge implications was Brock's run to the sideline. I fully admit, Brock's foot may have been out of bounds, but no official signaled that it had. Brock then lunges & extends the ball at least one yard over the first down line & his knee touches inbounds just before the first down marker. Either that ball is spotted where is foot went out of bounds (if it did), or the ball is spotted beyond the first down marker where it was when his knee touches since he was extending the ball forward, rather than sliding & giving himself up. Instead, the officials spot the ball where his knee went down, which is incorrect in any scenario other than sliding. The officials should have stopped the clock & reviewed the spot & whether or not he had stepped out of bounds prior.

In both of these cases, there was no definitive signal on the field from the officiating crew & it seemed like the head ref was simply making things up as they went because the game was moving to fast for them to process.

I will even admit that the PI call against WVU on the final drive was also the wrong call. PI should not have been called. In this case, ISU got away with one.

Also, let's not forget WVU snapping the ball when the play clock was well into double-zeros & passing for a touchdown.

It's clear to me that the talent on the field in pads & helmets far exceeded the talent in black & white stripes.

Also, the TV broadcast was absolutely atrocious.

The Big 12 owes both Iowa State & West Virginia an apology for both on- & off-field results of this game.

They need better rules on scoreboard music. The volume should be limited and it should ONLY be allowed during timeouts and should stop when the players take the field. That was ridiculous.

Never a fan of signaling out a player, but Datrone Young...yikes. I stopped to rewind and watch each time he got beat (which was a lot) and off the snap he has no idea what to do. So flat-footed, does not read the WR well at all, and just kind gives so much cushion because I think he knows he is not good at reading and breaking on the ball. It was painful to watch.

The goal line fumble was BS too! He was in for a TD… worst case down at 2” line!

The PI against Johnson on their go ahead drive, wth!

Jake the snake played awesome but dang that D misses Rose, they looked lost with out him. Not sure why we couldn’t adjust to the out routes to the sideline
Johnson went through him to the ball and had one arm around him early. I don't know what you were watching but that was clearly PI.

Lets not forget the missed delay of game call that resulted in a WVU TD.

I will give credit where credit is due here for refs really ******* up. There needs to be a system similar to the shot clock in basketball where it’s obvious. That was a major **** up. Even after the play was over I kept saying to my wife, where is the yellow flag icon. The fact that isn’t reviewable is a joke. That isn’t a judgement call, there is no nuance, the ball is or it isn’t snapped in time.

BTW, for those who don’t know, we share refs with the MWC. I’m thinking this was their poor crew. Never seen them before.

Never, ever put yourself in the position to depend on the refs...not a good strategy. Bottom line was the D...make two stops on two drives...we win. That was the same ole ISU that repeatedly gave up 3rd and longs...WV was nearly perfect on those.

Depend on the refs? To do their job? Ya we’re ******* crazy bro…why the **** would anyone expect that.
