Texas Tech fires FB Coach Matt Wells

Part of the issue is that TxT fans have a vision of their football program that's not consistent with reality, unlike most logical ISU and K-State fans. Even during Mike's tenure, TxT never won a conference championship.

BTW, Kliff was 8-5 his first year. He had an eye for QB talent and the ability to develop them. He would have won championships in Lubbock.
Lmfao, no he wouldn’t have, and his defenses were pure **** in his time there. Going 8-5 your first year and following it up with 6-7 and 5-7 seasons is not good. He was not good at Tech. Tubberville was better than Kliff at tech.

"No specific duty to mitigate" means my *** would be taking up residence on a beach somewhere until that buyout is fully paid off.
Damn right. See if you can line up enough guest appearances on sports talk shows to keep your profile up, but other than that, just let the checks roll in. Maybe take up a hobby.

Surly is going to love Klieman. Go 8-5 year one and 5-7 and 6-6 the rest of his career. You’ll always cling to that first season he was able to go 8-5.

Having an undefeated NFL team says B12 championship to me. Kliff was young. He has charisma. He knows offense. He would have won in time. To suggest otherwise given his NFL record is preposterous borderline laughable.

Well you are the only laughing then. He is having a good year this year, absolutely, but one year isn’t what makes a good coach. Some people are made more for NFL than college and Kliff may be one of them. You have some pretty dumb posts on here quite frequently you know that?

Going 5-7 with Patrick Mahomes says championship to me too.

Surly, they're 7-0. The Steelers started 11-0 last year.

What does this list prove?

In NFL there's a GM and associated office/staff. In College, HC is the CEO responsible for identifying, targeting, acquiring and coaching that talent. Both have the skillset of managing personalities, but managing professionals and motivating "amateurs" are also different skillsets.

I imagine his easy going, don't squash the ego approach (not unlike Fred) works better in NFL than it did for motivating at the collegiate level.

Jags would be stupid to fire Urban Meyer after this year wouldn’t they? I mean, look at all the things Urban did in college football.

That’s why Saban was such a smashing success in the NFL right?

NFL and college head coaching require different skill sets beyond Xs and Os. Kliff seems to be more suited to be a pro coach. Having talent doesn’t hurt either.

That's an, um, impressive list.

I don't think he's going to get fired after this season, but Meyer has never met a job that he couldn't cut and run from.
