New PA Announcer

Define “tavernhoks”. I grew up in SE Iowa, and know loads of folks who didn’t attend UI but are Hawkeye fans (once including my mother)…and don’t fit the stereotype.

Yes, I’m challenging commonly held stereotypes. Weird, huh?

What do you consider the stereotypical tavern Hok?

Joe’s voice is easy to listen to - I think it was time for Karl to hang it up for football, it was getting hard to hear/understand what he was saying. I’ll still miss Gary for basketball though - will always remember him going bonkers announcing the other teams timeout after a huge Cyclone run.

Personally I wish he was more of a homer, I thought it was a little too up tight, but not bad at all.

Not to derail the thread to basketball, but I love those Hilton timeout announcements.

This is where I noticed the difference. In the past you could hear the personality coming out versus the "broadcast voice". I felt like it was even this way during the Kid Captain read and posted in another thread that there's a bit more Billy Mays that comes out. Maybe it's supposed to sound like this and I'm just used to who we've had.
