Bruce Van Develde

I thought he was stocking shelves at Pamida in Ohio or something.
Must have gotten canned..

I feel bad for whatever institution he currently calls his job.

In all honesty, I did see him in the West Ames Hy-Vee sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was in front of me at the Chineese Express. He is also still listed as owning a house in North Ames, a few blocks up from McDermotts house.

he is taking a public speaking class and business and economics 101 at the Drake Business School

I think he just served me breakfast this morning at McDonalds

I don't normally single people out, but nearly everything you type puts me on edge. You are the foremost defender of McCarney, crying foul and going so far as to call his detractors "idiots"; yet here you are taking pot shots at VandeVelde, about whom you probably don't know much.

I don't know Bruce VandeVelde, but I do know that the job he had did not allow him the sweeping power presently enjoyed by Jamie Pollard. VandeVelde was a year-to-year contract guy and many knowledgeable people recognize that he was the administration's short-term hatchet man. We'll never know if he had a vision for the athletic department, but we do know that he didn't have the power to accomplish anything. Even so, somehow you opine he's fit for nothing better than working at McDonalds.

In summary, if you're going to put yourself out there as the "defender of the unfairly treated", it's likely that BVD got shafted by ISU and ISU fans much moreso than Danny Mac. He certainly doesn't deserve your derision....

Yeah I was looking for a half way serious answer on this one. Nobody has given me a straight one yet.:frown3qg:

Bruce wasn't my favorite guy either, and it appears from most of your posts he is the fall guy for most of ISU's past athletic problems. Look in the mirrors my friends. When you're at the bottom of the Big 12 in athletic budget, your options are rather limited. And that's simply a function of fan attendance x ticket price.

Anyway does anybody know if he got a legitimate job yet and if so where?

True, true but when the guy that is supposed to have the vision is an empty suit or at best a number cruncher/budget balancer it's difficult for people to rally and up their support. Pollard hasn't had jack crap for results to sell yet we're bringing more money than we ever have because there is a vision for the department.

I actually saw BVD and his family bringing up the gifts at mass on Sunday at St. Cecilia's (Ames). Half of the athletic department goes there. I see Pollard and McDermott there all the time.

I agree. CY ST8T is the pot calling the kettle black on this one. He chastises others’ post for being disrespectful and calls them out on it only to turn around and exhibit the same. Hey Matt if you are going to position yourself as the “moral conscienceâ€￾ with regards to how others post on this board you may want to practice what you preach. :rolleyes5cz:

Oh, and I am still waiting for you to point out all those MAC bashing post. :wink0st:

UNO in Omaha had the same type of weak kneed athletic dirtector because they chose so. They are being forced out of North Central Conference (36 schollies) at UNO and are looking for a hiding place of a conference. They did not want to find $1M and go like South Dakopta and North Dakota and North Dakota State. They wanted to hang onto their hockley money and the conference they looked at (24 schollies) is scared UNO had too much money. The weak AD Herbster quit and now UNO is very slowly looking at finding an AD and a boss for the AD who was kicked out for spending money on himself plus a new chancellor who had hired the boss. The boss of AD was soaking up athletic department funds to the tune of $200k in expenditures on his goodies. What a mess. Sometimes crappy leadership is not worth the money it costs. Ask UNO. Yes, we are lucky to have JP and a vision upward instead of retrenchment. Bruce for whatever reason was not going to lead us to the Promised Land.

Yes, ICCYFAN I truly thought that BVD served me coffee at McDonalds. It was in no way just stupid humor and deserves three paragraphs of you going off. Good Job! And as for me calling detractors of Mac idiots, you obviously do not understand. The part that I have called them idiots on was just spending time after the guy is gone to consistently beat a dead horse saying that he qualifies for nothing. Did I know BVD personally? No! I did meet Mac on several occasions and he just was a genuine person that I admired. Does that make me an "idiot"? Fine, so be it!
