Preseason AP Top 25 Poll Released

Agree with all of this... the b10 was bad last year. I will say they lost their qb in the maryland game and were not the same after that. They may have beaten ole miss if they have him. But that said, they were bad and got a huge ratings boost when they beat then no. 8 psu (game 1) who ended up with a losing record.
Maybe, but before Penix got hurt in that Maryland game he was really bad. But yes overall that was a big loss.

And they won on a blown call in over time to boot. Indiana fans were ridiculous when we got a NY6 bowl and they didn't

The next time would be the first.

Undefeated Teams Heading into the CFP:
2014: 1 (FSU)
2015: 1 (Clemson)
2016: 1 (Alabama)
2017: none
2018: 3 (Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame)
2019: 3 (Clemson, LSU, Ohio St)
2020: 2 (Alabama and Ohio St*)

Couple of notable teams left out:
2014 - Baylor and TCU got left out, both at 11-1 and Big XII One True Champion co-champs
2016 - Western Michigan was 13-0
2018 - Ohio St and Oklahoma were both 12-1 conference champs. Three undefeated teams, so someone was going to be left out. Only time a one loss P5 Champ was left out of the CFP.
2020 - Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina and San Jose St were all undefeated.
Whar UCF?

I’m going to sound like an old lady but the headline on the CF Top 25 article sounds like a middle-school newspaper headline:

“Cyclones come in at No. 7 in debut 2021 AP poll”

“Cyclones debut at No. 7 in initial 2021 AP poll” sounds much better.

Carry on.
You forgot to tell them to get off your lawn.

I agree, those options are more effective. Thread title didn't bother me, though, since I assumed the focus is ISU's ranking.

My choice for thread title might have been "Area Team Ranked." :D

Florida was the obviously overrated team to anyone paying attention but it was all Indiana fans could to spam our threads on places like r/cfb and spam ridiculous crap on twitter about how they deserved our bowl game and we didn't.

Before that I didn't have an opinion on Indiana. Now they're in my top 5 most hated teams because of the temper tantrum their fans and stans threw. I felt as much schadenfreude over their bowl loss as I would feel about the Hoks losing a bowl.

This seems to be a popular opinion on CF. Am I the only one who doesn't think it was a blown call?
I don’t think it was a blown call I think it was the exact definition of a 50/50 call and they were 100% correct in having the play stand. I’ve looked at that play so many times and have flipped back and forth on whether I believed it was a TD or not.

Blown call is probably an overstatement - it was really tight, but the back end of the ball hit the white paint before the it hit the pylon. It is possible the front tip of the ball is inside the pylon and breaking the plane, but it seems unlikely. I do think you have to probably stick with the call on the field as you can't see a view for sure where the ball hits the ground out of bounds and see that it has not broken the plane.

It's funny, watching it at the time I thought for sure it would get overturned just because of who the two teams were, and was happy to see it stand. Then by the end of the season my hatred for Indiana became white hot. Their fans and ESPN kept trashing ISU while pumping up a team whose most important accomplishment on the season was losing to the only good team they played.

"..ranking them ahead of more talented teams like Notre Dame is just a tad bit aggressive."

I went to one bowl game couple years back. Horrible.
ND fans are in for a rude awakening this year. Book was a bit of a whipping boy for years, but that guy was a gamer. They are replacing him with Coan, the transfer from Wisconsin. He might be fine, but the weight of the offense ND put on Book was not in the same planet as Coan, or any of the other Wisconsin QBs. Coan wasn't terrible, but it's a big unknown. There aren't too many offenses in the country that ask their QB to do less than Wisconsin. But who knows. Getting turned loose and having the freedom to make some mistakes can be a big win or a disaster depending on the guy.

Yes -again, agree the whole B10 was over rated last year... indiana did not deserve a ny6 bowl with or without penix. but i do think it is important to point out when you look at the loss to ole miss. They scored over 30 in 4 of 5 games than didn't break 30 the rest of the way... I think they will come down to earth this year as their schedule is more difficult - hope cinci beats them.

I love that we kicked the crap out of the other "more talented " team he mentioned the last game of the season last year. Go on gif...

Every time I read a comment like this, I immediately think of Steele Jantz.

Good use of asterisk on six win Ohio State.

They were 7 games shy of the committees previous data point requirement. Just a little short, who cares right?

The best #5 team I can remember actually wasn't power 5 but Meyer's undefeated Utah team. They blew out their entire schedule including curb stomping Alabama in a bowl. They definitely could have won a 4 team or 8 team playoff or NC game. It was during 2 team playoff era so they missed by several spots.

Ok I bit, and read the article. And this was a bad decision.

“Overrated: No. 7 Iowa State
There's no doubt that the Cyclones are one of the chic picks to make a run at the College Football Playoff after returning a medium-sized village of starters including star running back Breece Hall and quarterback Brock Purdy. Let's tap the brakes on that just a bit, though. While the 'Clones will be a tough out yet again this year thanks to experience and the coaching acumen of Matt Campbell, ranking them ahead of more talented teams like Notre Dame and Oregon is just a tad bit aggressive. I had Iowa State in my CBS Sports 130 ballot. Nothing against Iowa State as a program ... I just don't see it playing at the same level as the big boys in 2021.”

Like are you f*cking kidding me? Big boys?? What a f*cking assclown. That does even make any damn bit of sense. Why not just explicitly say, “The name Iowa State in the poll is too high because it’s the name. I kiss the ass of blue blood programs and actually have not done my research. In other news, I was also breast fed till I was 12.”

I thought it was pretty clear that the ball hit out of bounds before hitting the pylon. I agree that it was pretty impossible to overturn live but with the ability to slow it down and watch it back and forth. He wasn't in and I stand by that.

Indiana didn't beat a winning team until Wisconsin became one at the end. **** them to a million suns
