I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed, but the other day as I was going past the stadium I noticed a concrete foundation was placed curbside out in front of the new north entrance. The photo below shows this concrete foundation as you're looking NE from the Sports Performance Center.

I got excited because I was hoping it might be a foundation for the big Trice stripes display that's shown at the beginning of the sports performance building video, especially since the number of sections in this concrete foundation (5) matches the number of stripes in the Trice logo. However, I also heard this Trice stripes display was not going to happen, at least not right away. If so, does anyone know what this concrete foundation is for? Is it simply set up as a barrier?

I think it really could be the foundation of a trice stripes metal sculpture. At first I thought it was a small retaining wall to divert foot traffic off the grass, but if that’s the case they would have spanned the whole length of the grass area.

That would be so awesome if it really is the base of a big Trice stripes display. It would be an iconic entrance to our stadium and a trademark type of symbol that the TV networks would quickly pick up on. And what I wonderful message behind it!

It also appears that there is something along the top of that which reinforces that there is an additional purpose besides deterring foot traffic.

This is another view of it, looking NW. It appears there may be some wiring coming out of the top.

Finally, here's a view of the front of it. I only captured a portion of it because I was holding my phone out the passenger side while driving past it. I'm lucky I didn't run over anyone.

I was thinking that any foundation might be for the Jack Trice statue as i recall it is supposed to move back to the plaza. But that base is too narrow. So I'm hoping for Trice Stripes!

If I had to guess, I would imagine it will be big letters spelling out "Allbaugh Family Plaza". Everything has to have the donor's name in big letters, so everyone will know who to thank. And backlight at night so you won't miss it. It will be covered with empty beer cans on game days.

Dang, you may very well be correct. I've been really excited about a big Trice stripes display as shown at the beginning of the Sports Performance Center video. As I said earlier, it would be such a unique and iconic symbol at the entrance to our stadium that I think would generate enormous positive PR. If it's what you think it might be, it would be just another donor acknowledgement.

I agree, hopefully we can see a big bronze statue by 2023, but who knows. It's on my list when I win the powerball, but so far, I keep striking out.

I’d bet a shiny nickel that you’re correct. In fact, I’d bet a lot more because I’m fairly certain that’s what will be there.

There have been several iterations published since then, and none of them have included that feature.

Wesley had a great photo of the NEZ in his media day photos

Looking at that photo, when we get out the current conference realignment BS, I think on JPs 10-15 yr plan needs to be a mirrored version of the SPC, and we may need to find a way to beef up the looks of the Jacobson building.

As a side note, once those hills get packed with fans on games it's going to look even more amazing

I think that they could extend the Jacobson out to the video board supports pretty easily. Probably just do the second level so there's an actual tunnel. It honestly wouldn't have to go very far north to give the appearance of a bigger building in the endzone.

BTW, I think that Remo Gaggi has it right on the Albaugh plaza sign. I really wonder what they're going to do there, because it just doesn't seem like much of a plaza to me so far. Pretty much a couple of wide sidewalks with strips of grass in between them.

The footprint of the Jacobsen is exactly where a (generally) mirrored version of the SEZ would be, and I’m pretty sure a mirrored version of the SPC would make the Jake obsolete and unnecessary. So that works for me, all the way around.

It's essentially the actual definition of a plaza right now -- a public/open space.

Technically, yes. But I can guarantee if someone is putting their name on it, we’ve not seen the final product yet. What they’ve built so far is a pretty bland area that wouldn’t require much of a donation.
