Big-12 / Pac-12 possible merger

I don’t know if this would be legal but with the way things work now and with the pageantry of college athletics now dying, why don’t we explore selling the name of the conference for a big ass check from Amazon, Apple, or whatever? The Amazon Conference or the Big West brought to you by Amazon. Do a deal with Amazon for tv rights and just own it. Seriously, I don’t love it but it would be worth potentially millions for every school, every year.

Busch Light 20 PAC

If that happens, new teams will need to be added from the East Coast if WVA is to be kept in the Big 12. However, since the ACC is an odd # of teams (15 - ACC Conference Teams, maybe the right move is for WVA move there. Then the remaining 7 and the 14 Pac 12 teams will need to find another team (BYU?) to get to 22. That all presumes that the big 4 of the Pac 12 (WA, OR, UCLA & USC) don't bolt also. It all is going to be quite the sideshow to watch.

Guessing WVU and Baylor would stay for the affiliation through 2025 regardless of the inconvenience.

Then after that and the conferences merge, they would likely be dropped. Hopefully WVU gets into ACC. Baylor.. what-evs...

The Pac-12 oddly enough does in fact have 12 schools. Not trying to be a jerk, Big10 has 14, Big12 has 10, its confusing and silly.

Call it "The Wild Wild West"...

That's just too wild.

It seems like this is still premature and not all the dust has settled yet. I mean it is what it is and need to explore all options. If we join the PAC 12 and beat up the brand names of the PAC 12 they will just want to leave just as much as OU and UT.

I like to think that if we went to the PAC-whatever and consistently beat USC, Oregon, and Stanford, we’d elevate our brand even more and it’d be a major plus.

It’s a bit optimistic, but not impossible.

The Big Lebowski
The Big 10 grabs every available Power 5 AAU school west of the Mississippi River. It becomes the Big 24 Superconference, composed of three conferences -- the Eastern 8 Conference (Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, and Purdue), the Midwestern 8 Conference (Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Kansas), and the Western 8 Conference (Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Cal, USC, and UCLA). If not checkmate, at least check, over the SEC/ESPN.

I like the idea of merging with the Pac 12. What would we call it? The Pac 20? The Western Conference?

Also, did anybody notice CBS's preseason rankings? ISU #6. Nice.
Twenty teams in the new conference. The $20 bill is the Jackson, so shortened the conference name is "The Jack". You're welcome.

Reactions: cyence and Lineup
I know in my head that the P12 would be worse than the B1G in terms of money, geography, prestige. But, being able to stick with some of the old Big8, have games in Colorado, Arizona, the coast etc... does hold a lot of heart appeal.

In all honesty, when this all went down, I thought that only a Big 10 invite would get me out of my depression. But as the possibility of the 8 remaining members staying together has seemed more likely, its grown on me. Retaining some of our identity by keeping games against OSU, KU, and KSU, while re-igniting with CU would be great. And if you're looking for fun away games to travel too, the Pac-12 is clearly superior to the Big 10 (ignoring cost of travel).

One other benefit of sticking together is that it sticks it to UT and OU. I think we all know that they assumed that the conference would fall apart when they announced as the rest of us scrambled, and then they would get out of having to either stay until 2025 or pay to exit. But if the remaining 8 stick together and either do a scheduling deal or a merger, it can be done orderly and planned to begin in 2025.
