They could still occupy the bottom of the structure on game day- not sure why they couldn't. Would actually be more space if you took out the thin strip of green space in between the two lots in the SW corner
From the moment they took out that rich line of lilacs between Horticulture and Ross, I haven’t been a fan of “taking out green space”.

Please pardon my side rant, back to your discussion.

Except the people in the S1 (handicapped) and S2 (suites) lots also like to tailgate just like everyone else. A parking structure would more or less put an end to that.
True- good point

I will say that there are some fun tailgates that take place over at the BWR parking structure on game day. It can be done and those people love having their own space each week.

To be fair- it is dead grass that came back as watergrass, is poorly kept, has a dead tree in the middle of it and one light post. It does not even hold water like some of the other areas do. Just pave it over and add 30-50 vehicles into the lot.

Yes. Now that you mention it I do remember some comment about a garage but I just hadn't noticed on any videos previously. I guess I don't remember seeing the screenshot but I think you answered my question.
I found the post I was thinking of. It matches what you were referring to:
Looks like it will be according to the video. A strip of grass will be planted between the ramp retaining wall and the sidewalk to the W entrance. Also, I'm just now noticing that the video shows a "garage" for the media truck(s). That would explain why so much is torn up just to the east of the camera location.

One thing that could work one day is a parking structure from the Reiman Plaza to the end of the parking area next to the practice fields. Not only would it add parking, but it would also add quality parking to the gardens, the Sukup club and provide cover for the storage and working areas of the gardens.

You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts.

A multi-level parking structure carved out of the hillside between Beach and the practice field. Entrance/exit(s) on Beach and at field level. During the week, it's reserved for student-athletes visiting the SPC, and AD employees.

On game weekends, the lowest level(s) are used by non-tailgaters -- the football team/staff, gameday workers, and media -- thereby freeing up spaces for donor/public parking. Any remaining spaces on top could be reserved spaces sold on a season or per-game basis.

I don't think they are trenching (plus if they are trenching after putting in the rock base course, somebody needs to do a lot better job coordinating). Looks like they are putting in the edge forms for pouring one half of the ramp.
Maybe trenching was the wrong word but they dug a shallow trench/trough before the put in the forms. Good call on the forms. It's obvious now that they're installed. I didn't realize they would pour that half/half.

I was actually wondering how they’d do that, with a wall on one side and a drop off on the other. It’s an awfully long pour to work. Then I saw the forms and thought, “Duh”.

Neuman seems really quick at cutting expansion joints, don't recall seeing the actual cutting, but it always seems done early. Maybe they hired a "phantom" to do it overnight. :jimlad:

As I understand it, the "expansion joints" are more technically "shrinkage joints". Concrete shrinks as it cures and the jeans give it controlled places to crack when it shrinks. A lot of the occurs early and it is recommended to daw cut 8-24 hours after the pour but as soon as the concrete has cured enough to harden so that the cutting does not rip out the concretecaround the cut. Cutting after 24 hours may be too late - the shrinkage has already occured..

So I am please to see them cut it during the right time period.

Correct. You want to cut just about as soon as you can, especially with large flatwork. That is one of the reasons people try to pour concrete in the mornings, it lets you get on it in the late afternoon to cut in the control joints. That way, if you do get a crack in a panel it gets caught and only messes up a smaller area.

The timing is kind of Goldilocks situation. To early and you risk damaging the slab (tearing out aggregate, finding a soft spot in the pour, etc. To long and you are at risk of getting cracks, plus the concrete is only getting stronger so cutting becomes more difficult. It's got to be just right.

They typically are cutting it late in the afternoon the times I've seen them on the webcam.

Also, so that I don’t sneak over everyone goes home and add my initials and hand prints.

I've seen worse things added to concrete.

Weirdest was finding a golf ball embedded in a bridge deck 50' in the air after we stripped the curing blankets off it. No idea how it got there as we weren't close to a golf course nor were we in a neighborhood that would have had many golfers.

Maybe one of the concrete trucks passed by too close to a golf course on the way to the job site. :)

Sure there are security cameras, hope you can still outrun campus cops, that ability left me 40 years ago :D

Our youth baseball/softball complex dug a baseball out of a plugged sewer main that could have only gotten there from a foul ball dropping into a 4 inch roof sewer vent.

Looks to be more concrete being poured this morning.
Yup, looks like the northwest ramp is being poured. Apparently it's in two separate "lanes," as they have poured the inside half so far.

Also wanted to mention that to my untrained eye, the sod on the northwest hillside is looking a little better.
