Anyone know much about a Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse, or GMC Acadia? Looking at possibly getting one of these, but consumer reports on the years I'm looking at (2010-2014) don't have great ratings. Ignore consumer reports, or are they correct on these models?

I was looking for 2014-2016 versions of what you are referencing last summer... Ended up buying a 2020 Honda Odyssey. 3 days a year I wouldn't mind all wheel drive but I just took 4 adults and a toddler on a road trip with A TON of room to spare.

The deciding factor for us was cost and space. You save $10k going down to a van and the space is insane. Had a couple buddies make fun of me. Then rode in it. One is now buying a van for their 2 large dogs, wife and bun in the oven

Towing my 6x12 enclosed trailer is the only reason we aren't in a minivan right now. Have towed it empty a few times with my parents van and it is a struggle to do 65 mph, the Palisade will do 70+ with little issue.

Makes sense. The most I would "tow" is a bike rack. Good to have family with pickups

My sister had a Traverse. It had a few minor issues that she had to take in to get fixed. She just sold it and bought a Yukon.

A friend of ours had an Acadia. I think it was a decent car, but they ended up trading it for an Explorer and liked it better.

That's a great site. I used it while researching used cars for our younger daughter. But man, I came away convinced there isn't a single quality used car anywhere on the planet.

Yep. But some "issues" are more manageable than others. Take my 2016 Accord. The #1 issue by far has been the LED daytime running lights burning out for people. Honda recalled it and it's now fixed. Other than that. Pretty spotless. It seems the 2009-2012 years where SOLID per this website on a lot of models. Those were also years that sold the fewest new vehicles

Time will tell but I'm not going to dump $50k in a Kia or Hyundai SUV yet. I'll take a Honda or Toyota any day over those two. The Telluride and Palisade may end up being decent makes but rarely do I see an aged Kia/Hyundai that doesn't look like it's on it's deathbed in the 5 - 10 yr range.

In the used car industry, Kia is considered the Kmart of used car franchises. We actually make jokes about them. The drivetrains are not very good, and they are most popular for people with less than stellar credit. Go to any buy here/pay here lot and 1/3 the inventory are Kias.

The Telluride is a nice looking vehicle. If it's reliable, it could be the one that finally turns the brand around. However, we in the industry have been saying that for nearly 20 years. LOL

TBH, there are very few cars that impress me qualitywise anymore. Every manufacturer has issues. Variable cylinder management has been a disaster, even for formerly flawless Hondas. I bought two 2012 4 cylinders last week, an Accord with 50k and a Crv with 140k, and the VVT sprockets in both had failed. A PITA, but a mild concern compared to VCM engines eating a quart of oil every 1500 miles. The more stringent CAFE standards is resulting in less reliable cars and higher repair costs. It's no wonder so many would be ok with building EVs.

Parents neighbor's went from all Honda to all Hyundai recently within the last 5 years. We sold a '11 Sonata with 117k miles that I would have loved to keep if I fit in it better. They have made huge strides in the last 10 years even.

Interesting insights. So if you're stacking up Kia v. Hyundai overall what's your take? We just got daughter 1 a 2018 Hyundai Elantra for her last two years at ISU, had also thought of looking at Kia Forte for her but she really liked the Elantra.

I want to like the new Hyundais, but when I was shopping for used school cars and looked at ones with some age on them but reasonable mileage it became pretty apparent that these are not cars engineered to make it past 10 years old, IMO. After the fifth or sixth one I looked at, I changed course and looked only at Hondas and Toyotas. It definitely colored my view of them for my next new car purchase.

In January we were looking at the Telluride and the Palisade. I finally got her to look at the Atlas. Went to the dealerships, took one look at a Telluride and walked away due to it being small. Went and drove the Palisade and the Atlas. The difference was pretty surprising and she wanted the Atlas. So far, it’s been great. Very quiet and smooth and it’s a Volkswagon so I’m pretty confident.
