Vegas Trip

Just be aware Scott who runs Vital Vegas is notoriously making **** up. Certainly the most wrong insider in all of Vegas.

Now that being said, I do follow him because he's occasionally right. And this one falls in line with what MGM and Caesars have been saying on their conference earnings calls.

"MGM and Caesars conference earning calls?"

Man, you cover every angle on Vegas!

We planned to go but I don't think we will anymore. Airline tickets are simply way too expensive that weekend for a flight to Las Vegas. I've bought tickets for $150-$200/pp before and now everything from DSM or CID is $500+/pp. Insane.

Yeah, I would not be going if I didn't get flights early.

I'm taking a big risk and flying in the day of the game. Luckily the flight gets in around 1, so should be good, as long as the game is in the evening. Staying Saturday to Tuesday. Was about $300 cheaper on each of our flight tickets and about $80 cheaper on hotel.

We have to work and my wife got a new job, so we're looking at fri-sun trips. I'd love to change a day on either end to save money
Yeah we changed from Thursday-Sunday. We budgeted for spending $350 for tickets, and found tickets for $352. Flights on our original plans were either extremely unreasonable (overnight connections, which would require an additional day of already limited PTO) or like $800 a piece.

Some people flying to Utah and renting cars. Still cheaper than flights to Vegas.

I considered phoenix, having a car in vegas seems like a pain in the ass though, not to mention I've never felt like driving 4+hours after a long weekend in vegas.

I went once for a kids basketball tournament and got a car because the games were all in various high schools etc. The resorts on the strip all have plenty of parking and it’s valet. Navigating the strip into some of the can be a nightmare at times but it isn’t bad.

Don’t disagree about a long night drive after though

The overall discussion tells me game tickets will be fine though. I think the risk will be how they limit ticket brokers from buying all the extras and driving the price way up

Yeah I’m super mad, I’ve just given up the dream this week of going. And no one loves Vegas and Iowa State more than me, but if me and the wife go I can get flights for $300 a piece, then ANY kind of hotel that I would stay in will cost $500 for the two nights with resort fees and taxes.....tickets 50-100 a piece .... and heaven forbid we actually have any fun or eat or drink...and I’m spending $1500 to see a (hopefully) bad football game. It would be cheaper and probably better to fly to Ames for the Iowa game. My heart is breaking lol

Save it for our playoff and NC games

Sorry to hear that, but its not like this game has not been on the schedule for a few years, and was thrown on at the last moment. We booked out hotel on Black Friday deals, purchased our flights the day Southwest opened them up.

Sometimes you have to be a little proactive, and take charge. The days of getting dirt cheap airfare and rooms in Vegas are probley over forever unless you can go on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

I go to Vegas 2-3 times a year....I’m extremely aware of the costs normally involved in spending a weekend in Vegas .... This year there were a lot of weird circumstances happening to make this weekend a very unusual one for cost.

Just booked my flight this morning!!! $99 round trip on Spirit Airlines, out of Seattle. Prices had been about $200 until this morning. I can live out of a backpack for two days (9/17 - 9/19) so no extra baggage fees and its only a 2.5 hour direct flight. I'm sharing a room with my parents at The Mirage.

I am so pumped, the last "game" I was at was SDSU that got canceled due to lightning after 4 minutes.
