My only quibble is that Ames isn’t that small anymore, but I’m definitely glad to have both. I wish there were more “nice” options, but the pandemic definitely set us back.

I have to agree with you that it isn't that small anymore, but good or bad, Ames is definitely a bedroom community.

I went to Gamers quite a bit when I was in school. Bought a lot of Nintendo 64 stuff there. Then would stop at the Quiznos next door. Gamers disappeared for awhile but now have 2 locations in Omaha and one in Lincoln. I think they do online sales too at gogamers.com.

The original Omaha one went back to early 90s. I've always been into obscure vintage game systems and I could find crazy stuff there. The Ames one didn't open until just after I graduated.

Its just ok, nothing special.

Don’t know if it has been mentioned, but the Broiler was a casualty sometime in the mid 2000’s. To me it was better than Maude’s.

Crazy that Ames doesn’t have much for fine dining. It would seem that there would be a market for it.

It was but the location was awful.

Provisions is nice

For sure. And the space is beautiful

Sort of our "nicer Ames restaurants" rotation:

- Provisions
- Cafe
- The Spice
- Bar La Tosca
- Aunt Maude's (not usually one of our top choices)

Plus 39 is missed - we didn't go often, but it was a nice option to have.

"Mr. Burrito" the store did.

"Mr. Burrito" the guy passed away last summer.

This is probably one of my regrets during my time in Ames. That place was so good and I wish I frequented it more often. Is it more popular than Flying Burrito for those who are still in the area?

That was pretty much the list before Bar la Tosca moved. Have you been to the new spot?

Sneakily enjoyable when the weather cooperates: Wallaby’s rooftop for late drinks/appetizers.

We haven't been to the new Bar la Tosca! Have you - is it good? I struggle so much with Campustown - I love the idea of it, but parking is a giant pain, and so we don't end up actually going there very often. It is geared for those on foot, which is PERFECT for students - but is just prohibitive to those with cars!

I was 100% debating whether or not I should mention Wallaby's rooftop! They are definitely elevated from their time in the old... Country Kitchen, I think?

Rooftop/elevated I see what you did there. :)

I would consider adding Dublin and Wasabi.

Edit: Also Cornbread
