Otzelberger's First Recruiting/Transfer Class - FULL

With Arms gone, is Baker now the #1 want?
Depend largely what you or the staff for that matter are specifically looking for I would put Brockington at the top of my list
A lot to like about Baker's game. He looks like he may be elite stretch wing 3 shooter. I also like his potential versatility as a 6'7" 2/3 shooting guard who has a pretty good handle and is willing to pass. I could see him as a tall-line-up 2 guard, NBA potential there.

On other hand a guy like Izaiah Brockington, 6-4 G, would add an immediate 2 or 2/3 "physical" guard presence with great experience, and looks like a great defender. He is less apt to pass however but (on other hand) looks like he can drive and get his own shot.

Short term (this year) I do like Brockington for his experience, physicality, defense and guard help. Long term (next 3-4 years) I really like Baker, wing (or tall guard in pinch), good shooter, high ceiling.

My vote: Baker

Williams said this is the only guy the staff is currently going after on his Sunday night pod with Blum. Did I hear that correctly?

Izaiah Brockington - 6'4" SG (2021/22 Senior - Penn State): #2 guard for Penn State in the 2020/21 season, really picked up his play this last season. PRPG rating doubled this season. Good rebounder at the wing, great size for a 2 guard. Not a great 3 point shooter (28%). 84% free throw shooting may indicate he could be a better shooter. Kind of a twin too Kalscheur

Surprised by last night's podcast when CW said the only name they are hearing to fill the last spot is Brockington. Was hoping the staff would go after a shooter.

Izaiah isn't a shooter but does a lot of other guard skills well. Ideally he'd shoot better from 3 but I'd rather have dribbling passing and defense intensity to help set the culture rather than just getting a guy who hits 40% from 3 but nothing else well. He'd be a good get. From the looks of the final recruiting spot plan the staff is likely higher on Kalcheur rebounding from his poor shooting last year, and perhaps Tre/Caleb shooting than many fans.

I'll also add IB looks to be the only target right now but we may hear of some other names. I think the staff was focused on Tristian and Fletcher the past couple of weeks and now looking at what fits for the final spot.

Only problem I see with Brockington is outside shooting. If Kalscheur continues to struggle shooting then that's is pretty poor shooting backcourt. Not sure that would work too well.
Yep, I feel like the team would look a lot like it did in the first part of 19-20 if we trotted that backcourt out there, at least 3 pt shooting-wise. Maybe the goal would be to "dirty up games" by playing tenacious d and instead of jacking 3s, trying to get to the rim/get fouled etc. Could work, even if it ain't pretty.

Just as a note - Brockington doesn't shoot great, but he shoots about 1.5 3's per game. I think he realizes it's not his game and focuses elsewhere. So it's not like he's shooting 5 and only making 1. He's a slasher/driver with a good pull-up game and that's where his shots are going to come from. But yes, defenses would likely not need to be up on him tight at the 3 point line.
