And on a self-driving car? The tolerance would be much lower because public trust isn't nearly as high.

You are correct but it's WAY higher than 1 in 1 million.

17.3% of model S's produced from 2012-2015 reported an error to the NHTSA . They finally recalled 2/2021

Yeah this pause SHOULD prove that they are being extremely thorough but people are dumb and will see it as a reason to not get the vaccine.

The people that were using it as a reason not to get vaccinated likely weren't going to get it anyways. Even though the vaccine rollout has been moved extremely quick, there is a high level of scrutiny to make sure they get this right.

yeah this is ultimately what I come back to. One woman has died and another in critical condition. All had issues within two weeks of the vaccine. Maybe they were all pregnant or newly postpartum or on hormonal birth control plus being current/former smokers- something that reduces it from 1 in a million to a much smaller subset. With the amount of attention and many with vaccine hesitation, I think it's the right call to pause to learn more.

If I'm a man or post-menopausal woman, I'd move ahead. If I'm a younger woman, especially if on hormonal birth control, I'd switch out of an abundance of caution....

Don't know how accurate this report is, but they were saying this morning on CBS that clotting associated with the use of birth control pills is 10X that of the J&J vaccine.

it is, but what I'm reading is the way this is presenting is different from the expected type of clotting (and a very rare type) and is happening shortly after receiving the vaccine.

and I think the treatment is different than a regular blood clot.

if anything this pause should give people confidence that the cdc is being extra cautious.

of course because people are stupid, they will decide that no one should get the vaccine.

This just further undermines trust in vaccine rollout. Public health in this countries needs a crash course in communications...
It increases my confidence if anything. It shows they are willing to halt vaccine distribution to look into an issue and make sure it's not a larger problem. Would you rather they hide it from the public? I prefer pharmaceutical companies to be as open and transparent as possible.

I wonder how many of the 7 million doses were women. That would probably give you a better picture of the chances of it happening.

I am not well versed in birth control and its chances of giving you blood clots. Is this all types of birth control or only certain types?

I'm having a little fun with you is all. I'm sorry.
Oh, I know. My experience was a little unsettling to be honest. I normally consider myself a pretty "roll with it" person but I was pretty pissed that I signed up for one vaccine but was only offered another. I balked at first but my insane work schedule of late made it pretty unreasonable for me to walk away and choose to reschedule.

Who knows; we're all lab rats at this point.

And have been for a very long time in several aspects of life.

Otherwise cars would be rear wheel drive and basically tin cans and Coca Cola would still be a post-work out drink.

Based on what I read this is the key point to the pause - it's a cerebral sinus clot with low blood platelets that the normal blood clot treatment doesn't work well for.

My dad died from untreatable clots. They are serious business, the treatments can cause internal bleeding.

I think it's specifically the pill... and maybe IUDs as well (aka any hormonal birth control)

Some IUDs are hormonal. It would be some types of the pill, the most common type. Combination pills which have both estrogen and progesterone, the former being the culprit in raising blood clot risk. Further complicating is that combo pills can be monophasic (same level of hormones each week) or triphasic (varying levels of hormones for three weeks then a week of sugar pills to replicate natural hormone patterns).

What are the shots? I know for awhile they were advertised for men also, but never checked in on that as I wasn’t interested. I would guess hormonal if they were shots, but just guessing
