If Hinson is here and healthy, wing isn’t an issue.
From my limited view of Hinson, he looks more like a power 4, than a slashing 3. I guess it depends on your definition of a wing.

I don't like comparing guys to other previous Cyclones, but it is what we're all most used to.
Hinson is closer to a FR & SO Ejim, than a Will Clyburn or Wesley Johnson. I would love to add a guy like Clyburn, Wesley Johnson, or Marques Gilstrap.

BIG pickup! Great job by TJ and staff.

To everyone trying to do the math with Bolton and JCL leaving, just don’t. Last year’s team was a travesty. A few good individual players, all horrible as a team. The less of that team we have left, the better imo. We need leaders, and players who fit into the system. None of the players we’re losing really fit, and the results of last year prove that.

Let’s keep this going!

Looks like a much needed 3&D type of player. I think this type of player fits next to Hunter a little better than JCL or Bolton.
I agree. Only thing I see a little different, is Babb was very good at rebounding from his guard position. And maybe Gabe was never asked to like Babb was because Minnesota had more post presence than Iowa St did with Babb.
Obviously we'll need an increased emphasis on rebounding from everyone, but more so if Foster is in the starting line up. He's not exactly the type of 7 footer that eats up the boards.

Eh...I just think he's on par with JCL and Bolton, more Robin that Batman. He'll look like a better signing if he's a 2nd/3rd type of option. If the staff can find at least another starter with the last two spots, GK will be a really nice fit.

Agree. JCL averaged over 14/gm last year, this guy is not what I'd call a "needle mover." Good supporting player though with 2 yrs left to play a plus.

Not knowing enough about basketball matchups, is Foster more of a 4 than a 5, or would a 4 just be too tough for Foster to defend?

This is a great get. Welcome Gabe! I think some people need to realize that now, looking at the landscape, TJ was the best realistic option for ISU. Watching him run practice in that recent video was the most hyped I have been for ISU basketball in years. The guys were working hard AND having fun. Personally, I'm excited to watch recruiting again.

Glad to hear he has good practices, but I'm sure he ran the practices at UNLV the same way. And, there's no basis for concluding he was the best realistic option if no one else was even asked if they were interested, let alone interviewed.

I think that's the big question that we really don't know because we didn't see enough of Foster, especially against Big 12 guys.
Honestly right now, I don't think he can start and be effective against Power 6 starters. He's just not strong/ tough enough to play in the paint, like he would need to. I love the idea of him coming off the bench, and creating a mis match by playing pick n roll/pop with Hunter.

I think he is a stretch 4 more than a 5. Even tho he is 7 foot he is more comfortable on the wing rather than in the paint.

I don’t want to come across as being negative toward JCL, because he was clearly one of the better players on last year’s team, and seems like a good guy. But, I’d guess there’s a reason a guy who was a top-40 guy coming out of HS is going on his 4th CBB team. Not suggesting at all that he’s a character issue - again, seems like a good guy. I’d just say that his game is very limited to one very good skill - outside shooting (including tough fadeaway 2s...). Doesn’t drive, play D, or rebound. Could be a really nice 4th-6th guy on a very talented team. Not a top-3 kind of guy in my opinion. Would have been nice in a TyrusM-sniper role, but that’s not the team we have.

People have a tough time understanding that good individual players might not make a team better. JCL would be a great 6th man in the big 12. I remember when I said if Bolton is our best player we have som serious problems and I got flamed on here. Well look what happened. I wasn’t saying he isn’t a great player but him being our best player ruined any chance of success.

Which is why it's so important to find guys, and change current players' mentality on rebounds. I hate sounding like the fan at Hilton that yells "Cmon, get the rebound" after every shot from both teams, but when you're coming off a season ranked 317th in total rebounds, something has to change. Ultimately, you have to find guys that can 'go get the ball'.

Or get coaches that can motivate kids to go get the ball. Prohm was a lame duck in a CoVID year, that team was directionless and helpless.
