Roy Williams, who led North Carolina to three NCAA titles in his 33 seasons as a college basketball head coach, has retired, saying, "I no longer feel that I'm the right man" for the job.

What are your favorite memories of Roy?

Mine was sitting three rows behind him in our student section. 5 of his bench players walked on the court during a live ball (10 Jhawks on the court) when the ball was on the other end and flipped off our student section. Roy laughed it up with them, like a deep belly laugh.

It's what I instantly thought of when Melvin's "finger" was considered some major thing and how serious Ejim and Fred handled it, for Roy that type of thing was just daily operating procedure.

Both were common, I do agree that he physically resembles Huckleberry Hound more closely but "Deputy Dawg" rolls off the tongue.

I'm not sure to be honest; was this expected? I hadn't heard or read anything all season about this possibly being Ol' Roy's last season.

I saw this thread almost at the same time as the thread about Texas hiring Chris Beard away from Texas Tech. This is about as huge a news day in college basketball without a game being played as there has been in a long time.

I'll always remember Ole Roy for his gut wrenching, sobbing pressers. Guy should have retired years ago before he started falling over on the court.

My favorite memories all include him losing. I'm petty that way.

Seriously though, he had a great career and wish him the best in retirement.
