already a transfer crystal ball for grill to ISU.

The thing that I don’t like about this is that it flies in the face of what TJ said at his press conference. He said he wanted guys that want to be at Iowa State. With Caleb, if he wanted to be at Iowa State, he would STILL be at Iowa State. He wasn’t forced out, he chose to leave.

I’ll probably catch some flack for this, but a few things that TJ has done already have me scratching my head. I am not a TJ hater. I’m rooting for the guy, but I still don’t have a good feel for how genuine he is.

For me, it’s even more that he and supposedly even CSP have stated the talent level needs a serious upgrade. I’m not sure how this accomplishes that. I caught some of his games, he is definitely not a P6-level player defensively yet from what I saw.

He committed to TJ out of high school? What do you mean. The kids loyal to our head coach. Prohm's system nearly ruined his confidence. Can you honestly say that you fault him for reuniting with the coach he originally committed to? Also, I believe Tj put in a good word that got Caleb to ISU after he decommited from SDSU

I partially agree with you however I also feel like Caleb wanted to be at the ISU we all knew and loved. It hasn't been that ISU for a while now and it may have been evident from the inside before we saw it from the outside.
I didn't go to KC because I didn't want to watch us play not because of COVID but that doesn't mean I can't renew my season tickets and be just as excited to be there this winter.

We haven't won a conference game in well over a year... Who do you think we can get? Ames has fallen a lot farther than many fans seem to realize

He improved dramatically Year over year. Imagine what another off-season with Tj and no COVID cancellations will do for his game

It’s also a sizable step up in competition. My position boils down to not seeing the point in ghosting Nunn to run him off to bring in someone of Grill’s caliber. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I’ll take a 35% 3pt shooter off the bench.

Some fans really need a reality check for where this program currently is... Fred's quick turnaround using transfer won't likely work as that market has changed completely.

Now, in the future. When TJ has us rolling again. Then I agree we can be more picky on players. But to say no to a proven starter, who loves our coach and grew up cheering for ISU, plus was on a team that won a lot more games than we did this last year is dumb.

This is if we think Nunn is a big 12 caliber player though. For all we know Nunn is just another one of Prohm’s misses.

The Nunn thing is interesting. But TJ got to see a ton of him since he got his teammate committed to UNLV. Maybe we dodged a bullet. After all his offer list was pretty bad.. I trust the guy who brought us Ejim, Niang, Thomas, Naz Long and others

I like Caleb’s game and effort but just looking at the stats yr-yr He played 3x more min/ game at UNLV so normalizing them for that you get 30% fewer reb, steals are a wash and pts up 50% (from 6 to 9). Not sure where the dramatic improvement was other than 3pt%. You think he’s gonna make a bigger jump against better competition? I trust TJ to understand his capabilities and development trajectory but I have my doubts...

We could also compare the schools offering Nunn since he decommitted to the ones offering Grill since entering the portal. There are lots of ways to look at it.

Were you just trying to gain a laugh with this? I'm guessing he'll go to a low major for some deserved playing time now, but I really hate that you used the phrase "we're above" taking him. Jack is a great kid, and so is his Dad. I get your point but I don't think we need to start conversations or make a mockery on this board about it. Guess that's one piece of sarcasm I wish we would avoid.
I’m not sure. It’s debatable. Maybe it’s a two way street. If you’re gonna have the likes of Jim Nantz, Bill Rafferty, and Clark Kellogg gush all over you during an MSU game on CBS, then maybe it’s only fair an internet poster calls it like it is.

This board has a weird boner for Caleb Grill. He was an abysmal producer for arguably the worst or second-worst team in program history. He improved from below average to average at UNLV with much higher usage in a lesser conference. Just because “durrrrrrrrrr muh brain ruhmumbers that name so let’s get him I remember him so he is good at the sportsball durrrrrrrrr” we want him back?

Is there such dissonance caused by one’s history with- /passion for Iowa State that our fan base tards out to the fact that there will be much better options in this ridiculous transfer market? He’s a player that contributed to Prohm losing his job. You don’t bring that back, though I have no doubt Otz will. But you shouldn’t settle for average players. He’s no Scott Christopherson shooting the ball and there are a lot of “gym rats” on the market.

I disagree. The board likes him because he was a raw athlete that looked uncomfortable his freshman season and now has a year of actual playing under his belt where he performed pretty good. He will come with three years still left to play and could get better and better every year. His upside is what we see. We don’t see a lost kid like you remember as a freshman
