It turns out homeless people tend to find their way to places where they arent going to freeze to death at night.

Well sure, that’s what I’d do, but big cold cities have them in large quantities too.

So, took the girlfriend and her son skating today and on the way home we see some lady crouched down. The closer we get we realize this woman is taking a damn **** on the side of the road!

Its kind of sad, but the homeless population in Des Moines seems to be getting over populated.

The Midtown Greenway bike and trailway through Minneapolis got populated with popup encampments after some group encampments got closed. I was happy to at least see the city (or some organization) had placed porta potties alone the trail near the tent city.

And lots of luck finding a public toilet in most city centers or even parks these days.

I have urinated in many public places at 3 in the morning in Ames. Nothing to be ashamed off.

I grew up on a farm and the ability to find a spot to go outside has likely saved me from a few tickets/jail time through the years.

The timing and precision I learned can not go unnoticed.

A No. 2 though...not my area.

Look at you, acting like you've never **** in a random spot. When you need to go, you need to go.

It kinda sucks they built the homeless center in downtown, you'd think they wouldn't want to take prime real estate for something like that but maybe that is where the need was at the time. Also might not have been valuable land at the time. Every city is going through a homelessness crisis at the moment unfortunately.

The center is on the south section of downtown, near MLK, so not really a bad spot to have it. Most of the homeless are around the river by Grey's Lake and the RR tracks west of downtown, so it's a pretty good location for those that need it.

On the side of a major street so no ideal. I’m not making fun, but she probably could have found somewhere more discrete

Not your area? Haven’t you been detassling and felt the urge? More than once I came home from a hot July day with one less sock.

Anybody having to be homeless is too many, but I'd be surprised if DSM isn't under average for other cities of similar size. The past year has probably made matters worse, but again, that would likely impact other areas at an even higher rate based on local economy data.
If only because iowa is an uninhabitable hellscape for 40% of the year weather wise.
