***Official 2021 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Big12 is about to go 7-0 in the opening round and shows the basketball world that it's the best conference. I can't wait for our MBB team to join the party in the near future. I trust TJ will bring the glory back.

I seek an @HoopsTournament tournament nugget about MAC teams winning first-round games (or beyond) as double-digit seed.

I can recall a few (or was able to find them), but probably missing some others and curious about filling in the blanks.

Ohio has three in past decade:
(13 vs. 4) tonight vs. UVa
(13 vs. 4) 2013, vs. U-M
(14 vs. 3) 2010, Georgetown

Buffalo
(13 vs. 4) 2018, vs. Arizona

Kent State
(13 vs. 4) 2001, vs. Indiana
(10 seed) 2002 (went to Elite 8).

Miami
10 seed in '99 -- sweet (16?)

If Texas wins, it will be the single greatest record by any conference in any round of any tournament EVER.

VCU thing is interesting. How long until a 1 or 2 seed gets bumped because of COVID? Seems inevitable. Could change everything.

With Gonzaga playing, a reminder of how difficult it is for AP #1 teams to win the tournament.

Since 1985, here is the list of all #1 teams to win the title:

1992 - Duke
1995 - UCLA
2001 - Duke
2012 - Kentucky

Here is the list of undefeated teams that have failed to win the title since Indiana did in 1976:
1979 - Indiana State
1991 - UNLV
2014 - Wichita State
2015 - Kentucky

19 teams have entered the tournament undefeated. 7 have won the title.

Teams in this year’s tournament w/ green in school colors:
Baylor
Cleveland State
Michigan State
Norfolk State
North Texas
Ohio
Oregon
(I think I got all of 'em)
—> I don’t know if that’s an unusual percentage of green in the field historically, but thought about it after UNT and Ohio upsets.

I don't have school color in my database because if I did, I would run an analysis.

It would be like the Big Ten going 10-0 in one round mathematically and that would probably result in media hysteria.
