Report: T.J. Otzelberger headed for Iowa State

Welcome, T.J. - Let's bring back Hilton Magic!

Hope he calls and then visits Hunter (masked, of course). Really want him to stay committed. He ca Brin along Grill and a couple of his 4 stars as well.

Are Jamie and TJ related?

The fact that you think that nepotism is only about family shows me that you don't know what nepotism is. At the end of the day, call it whatever you want. It's a completely ****** practice to favor your friends for jobs and not give others a fair chance at the same job. Again, imagine you're someone who has a winning percentage of 0.750 the last 3 years and you're beat out by someone because they're friends with the hiring manager. I could care less what term you use to describe that - you could call it cronyism too - it's an unfair and ****** practice, and corrupt.

I have no problem with hiring TJ if you at least kick the tires on a few other guys first. But it appears he went straight to his buddy before the ink dried on Prohms termination.

I know we all gave Leath a hard time for interjecting in the Prohm search. But this may be why another voice in the room is needed.

Hoping it’s either not true or we can look back 2 years from now and laugh at us doubting him.

It’s unfair to hire people you know and trust. Unfair to who?

Question for those who aren't happy if it's TJ. Would it change your mind if he brought on staff that consisted of someone like, oh Nate Loenser or maybe Danny Manning?

I think there's a few fans that are petty enough that they'd struggle with Danny Manning.

These are the same ones that are still upset at Raef.

Steven Leath is rolling over in his grave...

Yeah, good thing Leath was there to make sure we hired Prohm.

I get this. And I think I've made my stance clear on this issue.

But what Jamie will point to---and he may be right---is he's watched TJ for 15 years or however long. He went to SDSU to watch basketball, he went to Vegas. So in essence he's been interviewing for a long time. And as I am sure the press release will state, he has recruited every good player that has ever played at Iowa State. Every single one.

Yep. Good to network and know people, sure, but an above-board process should be about qualifications AND personal fit/reputation. We know that isn’t how the world works (not about what you know but who you know) but it’s definitely corrupt to hire someone for a multi-million dollar position with almost no vetting process.
