Coaching Search: Place your bets

Yep, that's my whole point. This whole "TJ = Prohm 2.0" is one of the dumber things I've seen on this board. And that's saying something.

There are plenty of reasons to not like TJ as the choice. But his resume is vastly different and more diverse than Steve Prohm's was.

The main difference in my mind is TJ has extensive recruiting in the MW (especially Wisconsin where ISU has thrived) compared to Prohm's connections in the south which has had mixed results.

Let's just say TJ comes here, retains the "key" pieces, and brings in Kaluma (and probably Caleb Grill).

1. #34 Player in the Nation, 4 star FR Tyrese Hunter - 6'1"
2. Back-to-back All-Conference SR Rasir Bolton - 6'3"
3. 3rd in scoring at Ole Miss, JR Blake Hinson - 6'7"
4. #42 Player in the Nation, 4 star FR Arthur Kaluma - 6'8"
5. 4 star RS FR Xavier Foster - 7'0"

Bench: Johnson, Jackson, Grill, Walker, Nunn, Blackwell, Dubar, Conditt, Harris

I know that's 14 players which is one too many, but you have to assume there will be at least a player or two who are not part of the program next year. I will not be speculating at all on who that may be.

That's pretty solid core and something to work with. But even without the 4-star recruit its a serviceable roster for a good coach. I'd print this exact post and talk through it with potential targets if I were Jamie Pollard.

That’d be awesome. I liked him a lot and thought he was going to be good as he got older.
I thought so too. People got down on him because of his poor shooting but I loved him as a player. Can't remember the game but when the dude took it right at him towards the end of the game and Grill challenged him and got the steal. I was super hyped. Maybe OSU?

Yeah I believe that was the last game of the year. T-Lew topped that off with the play of the year in the dunk / flex. Lol

That’s a very young starting 5. Hard to imagine they would make much noise in the big 12 Any time soon.

I’m all for legalization, but weird timing, since TJ just recruited someone that got high, got behind the wheel going 88 mph in a 35, and tragically killed someone. And apparently the charges just got dropped.
Eric Brandstad?

I’m not saying that team would be great nor good, but that team is exactly how some of our other solid teams have been.

Highly touted young guys mixed with experience. Rasir and Hinson would be in their 4th year. Mix that in with some more experience on the bench, a better coach, and you have the opportunity to be successful.

That’s not very young by today’s standards. Nor is it hard to imagine they would make noise (.500 or better in conference) anytime soon. Is 1-2 years not soon?

It has a senior and redshirt Jr in the starting lineup, with Foster a redshirt freshman. Experience on the bench, the type of role in which much of that experience is best suited for. I wouldn’t be surprised if there would be an additional newcomer with experience rather than Dubar or Blackwell.

The material is there, and if TJ can pull that off, he should be considered.

I’ve watched Florida State. Its not entertaining.
Last year they ended the year #4 in the nation and won the ACC outright. The year prior they ended at #10 and lost in the Sweet 16. Year before that they lost in the elite 8.

The past three years Hamilton has coached them to a 70-18 record. They don’t do one thing great, rather they do multiple things really good. Sign me TF up.

Who do you WANT to hire? Jeff Hornacek or Darian DeVries (Mike Brey or Archie Miller if they become available)
Who do you think we WILL hire? TJ
Who do you definitely NOT want to hire? An assistant or mid major coach

Half of those guys you have coming off the bench won't even be on the team next year which is probably a good thing.

Everyone - please stop with the Archie Miller nonsense. It is clear from anyone advocating him that they have not watched ANY Indiana hoops over the past 4 years, and are simply looking at his Dayton record. He has arguably done less with more than even Prohm.
