Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

If TJ's done nothing but lose at UNLV, then don't hire him. I don't know his exact record there and honestly am not interested enough to look it up.

John Beilein has won consistently at the college level. He has 27 seasons in Division 1 NCAA and an overall winning record as a coach. He's had a winning record at every stop in the NCAA. One year of terrible results in the NBA is a fluke, showing he's just not good at the NBA level. He's had only 4 seasons below .500 in the NCAA, having winning seasons in 85% of the years he's coached D1 NCAA. He's never had back to back losing seasons in his career. I'm not saying hire Beilein, but I'd be open to hiring him. His track record is entirely different than Hoiberg's.

Hoiberg has coached 2 consecutive seasons of losing basketball in the NCAA, and 2 consecutive losing seasons in the NBA before that. But throw out the NBA. In the NCAA he's got a track record of having winning seasons 4 out of 7 years, only about 57% of the time. Losing is becoming a pattern for Hoiberg. He can still break out of it, but imo it's not justified for us to take a chance on a coach who is on a downward trend.

Taking over at West Virginia and Michigan might be slightly different than Iowa State and Nebraska.

So Matta's last four seasons were very average, finishing 5th, 6th, 7th, then 10th in the league. What's the consensus on why they fell from elite to meh? I'll probably get roasted for even hinting at the idea that Matta could be anything but a slam dunk, but... I'm at least curious to hear some other petspectives.

They were 87-40 overall those last four years. That would be far from meh for us. (~22-10 avg)

If JP can’t get Dana or Thad Matta, then I want Fred back. Fred deserves to have the job back if he wants it. He’s proven he can win here. Only idiots have disowned Fred after he left for a dream NBA job.
Call me an idiot. It's OK. I just think it's time to consider a model that recognizes what's going on in college basketball today. Fred did that for us several years ago. What's the model for today and the future? If Fred has the insight and the ability to deliver, go for it. Otherwise, move on. It's OK. He'll still be a hero for us. I don't have the answer. I'm not a basketball x's and o's guy, and never played the game.

Has Altman’s name come up anywhere other than CF? Unless he’s hustling to beat the posse out of Oregon, it seems like an odd choice for him.

Fred is only 5ish years removed from Iowa State. It’s not like we are going out and hiring Larry Eustachy here.

Any Iowa State basketball coach will live under the Fred shadow...always.

But success will make that shadow smaller
I just want to circle back once again to this terrible post. I’m actually worried many fans agree with you and this will only hurt Iowa State’s ability to hire quality coaches in the future. Hoping the way Hoifans treated Prohm was a one off, and they don’t do that for the next coach.

I think by reading this thread you can tell that is not the case.
