Sometimes, National Lampoon's Animal House helps me find just the right words.

Grade point for Bluto (Prohm): "Zero point zero."

Bluto's (BB fan base) reaction to getting kicked out of school: "@#$%, seven years of college down the drain."

The seven years of college down the drain may be a little harsh, but as in Bluto's case, we have little to feel good about.

While watching the Baylor-WV game, I told my wife I really miss those days when ISU looked and played like that. How many more years of the #### we have till I can get excited to watch ISU men's basketball again?

It will be really interesting to see how it goes in today's basketball where coaches have to find that balance between getting old and injecting talent.

Why?

Lets entertain that he decides to leave NU to come here, which i doubt.

At that point if he gets another NBA offer it'll probably be because he resurrected this **** again, putting us in a better place to make the next hire again.

I don't particularly need an ISU coach to be a lifer here. Just leave it better than where they found it.

this is my point even with a guy like John Beilein.

people are hating on the idea of him ( i dont think isu would hire him anyway) but why wouldnt you want a proven winner to come in and coach the program to get it back to where it was. even if hes here 5-10 years and got this program in a better place.. id take that any day.

now there isnt guarantees in coaching, but at least hes proven he can do it and win at a high level.

Exactly. You take the 5 years and better program, then work things out from there.

Tom Shatel's (from the Omaha Weird Harold) opinion on Prohm, Devries and Pollard toward the end of the column.

Summary - Prohm’s name is mentioned as a candidate for New Mexico. That would be great for ISU. But I have no idea how ANY AD could look at Prohm’s record, his teams, and what he did at Iowa State and say “oh yeah, I want me some of that for my program!”.

It's not the good coaches that leave that hurt your program....it's the bad coaches that stay

I don’t think the desire for longevity is an either or proposition. And it’s not an excuse to hang on to an underperforming coach. I don’t think the desire to dial back the amount of coaching turnover is completely unfounded.

The ideal situation for ISU is that we find our own version of Drew/Huggins/Barnes at UT, etc. But I know we can’t bank on that, so I just want the next person to have success.

Hes out of the budget. Guaranteed. Everyone would love to have Beilein, but it’s not realistic. We’re going to need the hometown discount just to get Fred here.

honestly, are these Fred comments people just having time and wishing, or has there actually been some smoke that there is mutual interest?

I get it I really do, but seriously look around the landscape. He had success at Murray, some success at ISU, now it’s time to go. Fans look at everything so transactionally. We don’t know the culture or fit at NM. Steve took a gift with a good team from Fred, no one knows how he would do with taking a program from scratch. I’m past the shitting all over Steve phase, he’s gone.

Check out New Mexico's record......and in what conference. We are bad.....they are next level bad. And Steve has proven he can win. He did it here and at Murray State. And many think we can't get a good hire.....try New Mexico. We are a Duke type job compared to them.

I know. We'll do all of this on the cheap and pretend we were thorough, after the best candidate, and all that.
But if we were serious, talking to Beilein would be high on the list of things to do.

probably is. i do agree you'd have to inquire at least.

again, dont think we'd hire him but the argument that hes too old is just dumb. he can coach and he can win and thats who we need to hire. someone whose proven they can do that.

Could we possibly be lucky enough to have 2 coaches that were/are on the verge of being fired, be hired away to coach another team? Please be true!

I mentioned this in another thread, but what about Jeff Hornacek? I have not seen his name mentioned at all, unless I missed it. In that case, my bad.

An NBA coach with ISU ties. Wasn't he mentioned back in 2015 when Fred left? At that time I think he may have been the head coach of the Suns or Knicks. he wasn't leaving for a college job, but now he's an assistant with the Rockets.

You don’t even need to inquire. If JP was some message board poster running an AD then ya, he’d need to inquire. But seeing as he is a long term P5 AD with numerous coaching changes under his belt, he probably doesn’t even need to inquire because he just knows.

Senator Blutarsky takes exception to this.

The interesting thing about Beilein is his son. Patrick had shown real promise as a head coach until whatever personal issues he had forced him to resign from Niagra. There has been speculation as to what that is but I haven't seen confirmation. In any case, I don't think it was incredibly serious from the standpoint of a University wanting to employ him or not as an assistant. So, say you can get Beilein in here for 5 years, stabilize and improve the program, then have someone sitting on the bench as a possible succession plan. Nothing is guaranteed, but man, with all the questions around anyone else, it's an attractive thought to me.
