Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

I guess I'm to the point that I really don't care who gets hired... can't be worse than what we have now as far as results.

It should be mentioned that (in my mind) Fred would be the "safest" hire JP could make relative to what our general fan base's reaction would be to it. Then the ball would be in Fred's court. IF Fred failed, JP wouldn't be really killed for it. Hire any other candidate.... he'd get roasted if they failed.

Agree. And if he is actually an option, he would likely be among the safest option for success given his track record of success in the Big 12, including rebuilding a program and setting it up for long term success.

ISU is no ones dream job.

True. I don’t understand the obsession with finding a “lifer” coach who holds no greater career aspirations. And if you do find a coach like that who is worth keeping, it happens naturally over time as they build their program and fall in love with the job and place. I know we are all hoping that is the case with Campbell.

This is all an exercise in something that will never happen, but I enjoy people getting worked up.

The salary doesn't matter. The NBA buyout would matter. There's no way Jamie should offer a contract that doesn't have a huge NBA buyout. And I'd try to work in something that if Fred decided suddenly he wanted to retire before the contact was up, he'd owe Iowa State some money too. Hoiberg seems like he isn't a very content person with his life. Iowa State shouldn't pay for that.
The NBA wants nothing to do with him.

I think you are kidding yourself here. If Prohm comes back for another season Hilton will look like it is under Covid restrictions again. There were problems with empty sections last year towards the end of the season. We had guys yelling at Prohm during Senior Day speeches 3-4 seasons ago. It is possible we might have some booing next year if Prohm is back and the meatheads are allowed back in.
Trust me it won’t just be the meatheads booing Prohm. I think the grandparents would get in on that act.

With that being said it could become someone’s dream job after they get here.

Why?

Lets entertain that he decides to leave NU to come here, which i doubt.

At that point if he gets another NBA offer it'll probably be because he resurrected this **** again, putting us in a better place to make the next hire again.

I don't particularly need an ISU coach to be a lifer here. Just leave it better than where they found it.

5 years in college basketball is a good run. If you don’t believe that, take a look at our history.

Anyway that phrase you picked out was beside the point. You don’t go pursuing a coach because you think you have leverage over him to accept a below market deal. Terrible way to start a partnership, and if that’s the reason then why the hell are you pursuing him to begin with?

Seems to me you'd start at whatever level you paid him when he was last here. Would almost be insulting to say "we thought you were worth this before, but now you should accept less"

Fred has some support in the Ames area. Donors have stepped up for both TJ and Fred buyouts. They are separate groups but support for either is there. Let’s see where JP goes with this.

Are you saying donors are ready to pay a $10 million buyout for Fred Hoiberg? I don’t believe that at all.

If there is that kind of money available...go hire Dana Altman (or similar).

I don't use winner lightly in a basketball thread. This deserved it.

I can’t imagine Fred coming back naked no sense to me.

but I just feel like that last season and that surgery took a lot out of him, never had the same fire after that. Hell remember his last year? He couldn’t wear a tie because it cut off circulation to his brain and the guy was as white as a ghost.

I just think his heart took a lot out of him, feels tired to me.

But one good year he’d want the nba.

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he's realized he had a good thing at ISU and doesn't want to run around any more.

*Maybe he argued with his wife about it and she was like 'But do we have to go back to Ames?' and then he was like 'Well what the **** are we doing in Lincoln?' and then she got quiet, and he smiled as he left the room because he finally won that ****ing argument.

*Before someone goes emo, this is a joke based off of ongoing rumors the last few years.

Possibly but I think it'd take more than one. It was publicized that players didn't respect him as a coach in the league. Not sure winning again in college would really change that.
