Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

I appreciate the effort. My fame on here is due to a mostly fake meltdown in 2015 so we all do what we have to do.

I appreciate your dedication to the cause. Message boards are so much more fun when there are “characters” that play “roles”. I always laugh the hardest at the “I COME TO THE FORUMS FOR REAL ISU SPORTS NEWS STOP POSTING IN MY THREAD IF YOU’RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY”

He gone. Go back and listen to the CW and Blum pod from two weeks ago. CW doesn’t always just say it but this isn’t our first coaching change rodeo.

I have listened to it a couple times along with Cyclone Insider and some others. I agree with CW and wonder why he got such blowback from his show regarding new leadership on the sidelines. However, he is not calling the shots or to my understanding any insider information regarding a decision with Steve P.

I agree with what he said on the show along with Stanz. As close as we are in some of these games, shouldn’t coaching at least but you a couple victories? It seems like coaching has cost us some

No “sources”, but I think from reading to posts and thinking about the situation, Steve P comes back. I’m sure there are conversations about the status of the program and what needs to be improved. We have some players coming in next season and we might be a stretch 4 (actual 4 who can rebound and not a 3 playing a 4) and an experienced point guard away from being an improved team. Give Steve one year to prove it and if not we make a move that we can feel good making. Steve’s buyout goes down, we will be a year removed from this year and it’s financial issues and TJ might make more sense in the potential pool of candidates.

That’s my two cents because no one will hire Steve coming of this disaster of a year like McDermott.
Sorry bud, but no chance he comes back. It would be the worst move that JP has made since coming to ISU. The cost of bringing him back is far greater than any buyouts

If CW is blasting out coaching change pods, there’s going to be a coaching change.

You have a great track record here and appreciate your insight as always. Is there an advantage or point to announcing Prohm leaving before our season ends next Wednesday?
That’s a good question. I’m not sure there’s much of an advantage of announcing early. I think it makes more sense to wait until next week.

ISU actually damages it's basketball reputation by retaining a 2-20 coach.
A former Neby AD stated I will not allow our FB program continue to gravitate towards mediocrity. ISU’s BB program blew past that point.

At the time, of the options available after Hoiberg left, Prohm was the most accomplished head coach who was using Fred's basic system. As long as the personnel was there for it, he was the safest choice. TJ would have been a riskier choice in the same vein.

I think we've seen what that system looks like when you don't have the key pieces to run it. My guess is JP will be looking for a change in style for the next coach.

actually, Prohm underachieved with they guys he was left, he has a crap system and I'm sure other coaches would have done more with that roster from the first couple of years.

If we get fans back into Hilton at full capacity it won't be a morgue...unless we suck.
Did you watch any games last season? We’re already at that point. I was at the TCU game last season, we didn’t even have enough students there to hold the Hilton Magic banner...

I think you are kidding yourself here. If Prohm comes back for another season Hilton will look like it is under Covid restrictions again. There were problems with empty sections last year towards the end of the season. We had guys yelling at Prohm during Senior Day speeches 3-4 seasons ago. It is possible we might have some booing next year if Prohm is back and the meatheads are allowed back in.

There have been attendance issues ever since Prohm's second year.

Nope. And yes, I know we suck. And yes, I know we should fire Prohm...

I also know JP will be able to justify keeping SP for one more year if he wants to. He's got football success and facilities improvements to distract fans like me whose patience won't run out until the end of next year. Fans like me who recognize the product is down across the board.

If Jamie has a guy now, great! If he wants another year for a search, fine by me. He knows what the limit is and I trust him.

If Prohm doesn’t win another game we will have one of the worst, arguably the worst, seasons in ISU basketball history. That is very difficult to justify keeping.

Introducing....Coach Porter Moser

Recruits Midwest
Track Record
Culture

I've been on the Moser bandwagon for quite a while. He's at the top of my wishlist. I'm not sure how interested he would be though. He's turn down other Power 5 opportunities in the past. Admittedly not in the Midwest.

I may be the only one - but I don't like the idea of Moser as the coach

Could you expand on this?

I'm generally with you on this. If he has a guy and is ready to move, I am all for it, as 2-whatever is not acceptable. For JP, I am guessing it has to be a convincing enough hire to pull the trigger now considering budget constraints due to COVID. It's just an odd year and none of the realistic names floated would generate a large amount of universal excitement across the fanbase.

Either way, I am sure we will all know within the next week or so which way this is going.

The system has to generate "easy" points. Obviously that won't happen all the time but we get almost none. We get an uncontested 3 here and there but nothing down low. No cutters, no back cuts, nothing. We elect to post Solo, which is fine some of the time but it's not efficient basketball and once you're committed to that, you have effectively cut out any other easy possibility since he's not dominant. No one is doubling and if they do, he's not skilled enough to kill it.

I hate talking about Prohm this way but his system stinks on both ends. Maybe it's a talent issue but even average talent with decent coaching is an average team. With the offers some of these guys have had, I find it hard to believe it's simply talent.

Listen to this guy - it's the system. It's not always obvious at first glance because we do run a lot of things that look similar to everyone else, but they aren't the same.

Try something during one of the next games. When we are on offense don't watch the ball (it's probably a Bolton high ball screen or Solo post up anyway). Watch the guys off the ball for a stretch and put yourselves in their defenders shoes and ask yourself how hard it would be to guard one of our guys off the ball.

A post up doesn't have to be an inefficient play unless the plan is that the post up is the primary option. If there is movement (flare, split, something) and an emphasis that the post is not just a place to pound the ball in but a place to distribute from it can be an efficient pace to run the offense through.

The announcement is coming in a few days so you will know for sure then.
