Just think of the people that didn’t have any heat to begin with.
I think Dallas did a pretty good job all things considered. The city opened up 500 or so cots in the convention center. A few church homeless shelters doubled their capacity and partnered with hotels for additional capacity. Dallas supposedly has a homeless population of 3000 and there were that many beds available for this week.

That red line is what happens when the other 1/2 of the windmills in the state freeze up and then reliable power can't handle the load. Texas is in for a world of hurt today. Don't miss the days of dripping faucets to keep lines from freezing or at least bursting when they did freeze.
Apparently it’s a convergence of crap.

Windmills frozen and not generating power
Solar farms not generating power because of the snow
Natural gas supply is low and the weather is making those plants produce below 100%
Coal delays the last few weeks mean coal plants are rationing and not at 100%
Unprecedented demand because of the weather needing to heat everything up

We're 30,000 MW behind on power generation or according to the news, 6 million homes worth

Kinda weird but we had like 3 cans of Fresca left in a box in our garage. I went an looked at them and one was completely frozen and had swelled the bottom and top bud did not open. The other two cans were fine you could hear the liquid when you shook it slightly.

Same thing with diet 7 up. One plastic bottle was swelled up and the others around it were fine. We had a quilt over them in our garage to.

It's a bloodbath down in Texas right now. Obviously they aren't used to dealing with that crap.

I bet if you open one right from the garage they would flash freeze with the release of the CO2.

-7 in Ankeny right now. I might have to fire up the smoker and grab a cold one to enjoy this warm weather.

Yea I’m doing that. I wouldn’t be so concerned if the power was fine. Up to a few hours now without it
If it gets to it, keeping yourself warm can be done by continual eating along with appropriate winter wear. When I would camp in weather like this near the Canadian border (no heated cabin/tent for ~72 hours at a time), I would up my caloric uptake to around 5000 calories a day.

I thought about smoking meat the other day but I'd have to go thru triple the pellets to keep up.

Should I post when my temperature reaches the zero mark?
