*** Official Iowa State Season Thread ***

I watched him and I partied with him! One of a kind.

True statement.

At least then you know how he played. Effort and toughness and reckless. But not exceptionally skilled. He’d be great on this team because he’d knock people around.

now, Jared Homan had post moves, but he may still have arrest warrants in Ames for some of his college escapades.

If we do dismiss Prohm, I just want a coach that will teach rebounding and defense. Happy to go back to the Floyd days. Sick of being outrebounded constantly.
Floyd’s goal each game was to make more free throws than the other team attempted. Can’t recall the last time that happene.

A glaring weakness of this team is its poor passing. Their passes this entire season have consistently been soft, lazy, high, low, to the side, etc. There is no ability to recognize opportunities for interior bounce passes, and the result is an ineffective pick and roll offense. The lack of passing skills results in poor shooting percentages and turnovers. Robbie Hummel commented on this issue a couple of times during today's game.

Well. ISU had more assists than turnovers. That's a step in the right direction. Is there an emotional leader on this team? They all seem really sad or bored when they go to team huddles.

The 2 focal points of the offense, Rasir and Solo, are both pretty unemotional. Not every good player is fiery. I was a little disappointed in Rasir after he fouled out, but I don't know what was going on.

JCL, Johnson, and Harris seem more emotional. GC too.

The "catching" part is, at times, not strong, either.

I was a below the net player so I will never understand what it's like to yam one on somebody, but I wish Bolton would just lay the ball in.

Why does Prohm leave Solomon in if he’s not playing defense and turning the ball over? We can absolutely go small. For god sake Prohm

Solomon isn't going to make any All-Defense team. But Prohm puts our post guys in terrible situations in 2 ways:
  • Our guards cannot guard on-ball. Creates a lot of situations where Solo and Conditt end up fouling because they have to stop a driving perimeter player. They end up guarding 2 players in many situations.
  • WE SWITCH EVERYTHING AND OPPOSING COACHES ARE NOT STUPID!!!! Not sure why CSP feels that switching every screen is a good idea. We switch even when the opponent screen sucks and guys could easily stay with their guy. To automatically switch our post guys on the pick-n-roll or high ball screen is lunacy!!! Big 12 coaches know we automatically switch, so they run a half court set to get their post guarded by an ISU guard or their perimeter players guarded by Solo or Conditt. Then its just a matter of another pass to take advantage of the mismatch. KRUGER SCHOOLED PROHM TODAY.
FOR THE LOVE OF DEFENSE CSP- TEACH PHYSICAL DEFENSE AND STOP SWITCHING!!!

IMO our players have enough talent in a normal year to go 7-11 or 8-10, but it is tough to overcome coaching that only knows ONE WAY to win.

Tough being a Cyclone Basketball Fan.
