I wouldn't know why Devries wouldn't want to coach at ISU, we aren't that many yrs away from being good.
Hell as long as he is smart enough to not call a time out when the team is making a run and Hilton is rocking it will be an improvement. His teams are fun to watch and it's the style of ball that ISU fans like to watch. It's not that hard to be the coach at ISU. Pick your identity Run like Orr's and Fred's team, or play D like Floyds and Eustachy's. ISU fans don't care as long as you defend home court. Unluckily that is one thing Prohm hasn't figured out. I keep thinking maybe things will turn but I'm out of faith, there is no offensive or defensive identity on this team and there hasn't been for a couple of yrs unluckily. I hope he steps down but at that kind of money, ride it till your dumped is the most likely result.
If we do not win another game this season, I suspect that Pollard and Prohm will agree to a behind the scenes deal where Prohm resigns to save face but is paid a portion of the buyout.
After listening to, and reading Prohm's post game comments yesterday, I think he realizes this is it. His talk about the past ten year history, the expectations, etc., seem to be a bit of foreshadowing and fatalistic.
He is home. The way Nebraska is looking right now...he may want to come home next year.
It’s a little bit of both at each level.. Give me the best coach in college basketball and this ISU team still isn’t that great. You still need good players to be good. Is Iowa good because of Luka Garza or Fran McCaffery’s coaching ability?College is all about coaches. Pros is all about players.
We don’t have the right coach. Time to move on.
Royce would have been DNP-Coach's decision, right out the door.Like many, I was disappointed his first year with what he could do with a team that was ready-made.
In the years following, I was impressed by the ability to recruit guard talent. Not very impressed by talent at any other position though (a lot of guards who were mismatches playing forward position).
The team from two seasons past (THT's one year) had the opportunity to blow the doors off. But strife within the team brought it down. This brings me to the next point: Prohm does not seem to be able to bring in players that can like one another. One wonders what would have happened if Royce White was on a Prohm team?

I think if we had a different coach this team would be much better. They wouldn’t be competing for the conference title but they would be competitive. I continue to see talent that just isn’t well coached. They may put effort into games but often times it isn’t the right kind of effort. It’s a little bit of both at each level.. A different coach could preach effort and discipline, and not let kids phone it in for 10 minute stretches on the court. This team does not do a whole lot very well. A different coach would have an identity at least. This feels like 3rd grade basketball where kids are just trying things.
UNLV just lost twice to Colorado State who is coached by Niko Medved. Colorado State team is fun to watch this year. Pass on Otz.ISU isn’t and shouldn’t hire a sub .500 MWC coach
I’m definitely not denying his terrible ability to coach. He went 9-9 and first round tournament exit with a roster that was arguably the most talented in the league and Bill Self would have won the Big 12 with. That roster shows why it’s a little mixture of both though. We had the players so we were good enough to make the tournament but didn’t have the coaching to be great like we should have been. While that's true, Prohm's teams have almost always underperformed given the talent level every year he's been here. Last year he had a lottery pick and the team still stunk.
I will say I've been less than impressed with his game day acumen the second he stepped on the floor. Poor usage of TOs, lack of adjustments, guys not being sat for jacking up ridiculous shots (something that also plagued Hoiberg)...it's been a constant issue. Simply put Prohm's been terrible.
I think the team could be a little better but that coach would have to do miracles to get this team to the tournament. This team lacks above average ability in any category. No knock down shooters, no reliable ball handlers, no lock down defenders and zero rebounders. The one above average category might be Solo’s low post scoring but that’s not going to win you many games when you can’t defend or rebound and don’t score a lot of points as a team. I still see an ISU roster that lacks the necessary talent to be good. It was the same issue last year especially when Tyrese got hurt.I think if we had a different coach this team would be much better. Especially when solo's defense and rebounding make him almost unplayable.I think the team could be a little better but that coach would have to do miracles to get this team to the tournament. How much of that is due to the lack of any coaching or cohesive plan. We’ve seen they have talent in the WV, Baylor, and Texas games.I think the team could be a little better but that coach would have to do miracles to get this team to the tournament. UNI is better than us on exclusively local talent. I don’t care how well Prohm recruits. He doesn’t win!State of Iowa gets a good D1 prospect every 5+ years ? We won’t win trying to play with local talent.
