It’s like a punt. As long as the D doesn’t muff a recovery, it can just lay dead.
Not if it crosses the LOS.
If it crosses the line the defense is taught to stay away because it is only live for the defense and if the defense touches it then it becomes live for the offense. But if it is behind the line you need to get on it because it is live for both teams.

Yeah, I know that. It was just odd that they didn't even wait a moment to see what happened. (I mean, in theory, a stupid defender could have touched it and made it live again.
Agree. That's why the defense is taught to just get away if it crosses the line and if that happens the refs will blow it dead pretty quick.

The rule makes sense though. If it goes beyond The line of scrimmage, then it’s just a deflected kick.
Again nothing against Coastal or Cincy this year or any year but when my team FINALLY earned something great and all anyone can do is trash them and say how these G5 teams deserved way more than Iowa State who went 8-1 in a P5 conference and has a win over arguably the hottest team outside Bama and Clemson in OU and nearly did it again in the Big 12 title game, I am going to bring my full ire against you.

Nearly the same situation in the raider game tonight. They kneel inside the five yard line to use clock, make the field goal to go up by two. Then give up a field goal in 20 seconds to the dolphins. If they'd scored seven, it wouldn't have even been an issue.
