Maybe they can be named some type of sockThe first two are genuine ethnic slurs and needed to go.
Anyways, I really hope they are the Cleveland Spiders. That name just screams baseball.

It's kind of funny watching people get offended by other people being offended.
Nothing. But we gotta make sure we don't offend anyone, even if the people offended have nothing to do with the situation.
That is questionable. The Seminole tribe has stood behind Florida state with their name, mascot and other uses.
They have been pressured for years. Thankfully the owners of those teams have just used their brains and resisted.
It is my understanding that FSU also writes a nice check to Florida's Seminal Tribe each year as part of the agreement to use the name. They are getting paid so all is fine I guess.

Odd how things become perfectly fine when someone gives you a check.
I totally get how Washington was a slur. I don’t get how Indians was a slur. Maybe not the best terminology because it came from ignorance of who the people are but I have never seen anything derogatory with it.The first two are genuine ethnic slurs and needed to go.

You'd want paid for the use of a valuable IP, too.

My issue with this has long been I’m proud of the few teams that hold my ethnicity as their name. I wish there were more teams that had a team name representing my ancestors. I fear that it becomes easier to ignore the problems of the remaining Native Americans when we can ignore that they are still out there.
I don’t really care if they change the names but I wish they could have had the foresight to work with the teams on honoring their people instead of just tearing the names down.
Love the intro. Up there with That 70s Show.Still one of the best show intro from back in the day!
My heritage is a different background. My background doesn’t really have many teams named after it. I’d be thrilled if there were as many named after my heritage as there are different Native American names. That’s my frustration. I could get more into that but then it gets to political.I think the name Indians was considered derogatory since it wasn't a self used name, could be off and you probably have more knowledge than I especially if you have that in your heritage. Just what I had heard.
This is the free market at work. "Cancel culture" is a ridiculous boogeyman. A business decided that they would respond to the current market by changing their product. It's that simple. That's capitalism.Native American groups have been pushing for the change for a long time.
There's several other things that have been cancelled or not allowed for years following pressure from certain groups even though it had no affect on them at all that are now appalled by all of this 'cancel culture'.
Now they're appalled that something got changed that likely didn't affect them one way or another.
Just drop the "i" and make them the chefs
Part of the issue though is who is creating and using the name. I’m catholic and am a descendant of Irish Catholics. I don’t mind that Notre Dame is the fighting Irish because it’s a catholic institution and the Irish have played a major role in its history. I would have a problem if a traditionally Anglo-Saxon Protestant school, like Harvard, were the Fighting Irish and their mascot was a drunk Irishman or a drunk priest.I totally get how Washington was a slur.
