OSU v UM Axed

Outside of this OSU debate - Could the Big 10 have ****** this whole thing up any worse? Good god. The commissioner did all of this, handled it terribly, and then put the teams in the position for this to happen with no bye weeks. Now if they go and change the rules mid-season for OSU to be in like Alvarez is suggesting - wow.

This is what it comes down to for me. And we all know they'll go the 'brand' route.

And i also hate this argument that we "know" they are definitely one of the best 4 teams based on just 5 games.

There have been plenty of teams that looked amazing after 5-6 games that faded down the stretch. Especially when their first 5 were as weak as OSU's first 5 have been. Off the top of my head, Texas Tech and Baylor had some seasons like that in the last 10 years.

Yeah, in hindsight, there was an argument for playing it in the spring, there was an argument for playing in the fall with bye weeks built in for rescheduling... but starting late with no room for error was never going to work.

CFPC needs to do the audible here. Take 8. Use the other New Years 6 as quarterfinals, jump a week to the semi's, then a final week to final game. Put in your 5 Power 5 champs and 3 at large.

Call it a day...

If it expands to 8 I have no problem throwing Pac and Big Ten a bone with 5-6 game teams.

Given that the committee previously banned 12 game teams for not having enough games...they simply can't consider 5 and 6 game teams when others will have 11 games.

It's not about ISU being deserving. It's that Ohio State clearly does not deserve to be in give everything the committee has previously said. They have one decent win by 7 points and only 4 other games, none of which were vs good teams.

It was always stupid because their teams were always having practice.

Having practice is 99% of the risk without all the benefits of actually competing. I think players who practiced and got injured would have had a great legal case if they weren't allowed to play any games...which is part of why they had the opt out rule I'm sure.

WTF can we do. Nothing, and that’s the frustrating part. Because we’re ISU we have to play the perfect season to make the playoff.

If you’ve never felt repression in your life, here it is. Blue blood privilege at its finest.

Just to summarize the Big 10's Covid response:

Canceling the season claiming it was a decision reached at a meeting that may or may not have happened claiming player safety issues, getting sued by the parents of players in a member institution, deciding to play with no real resolution to those previously cited player safety issues, cramming 8 games into 8 weeks in complete disregard of player's physical well-being and creating an untenable schedule for when teams have a COVID outbreak and exposing the obvious favoritism that exists in your conference when the rules you unanimously created worked to the disfavor of the only school that matters creating what is likely irreparable differences between member institutions.

Did I miss anything?

If we beat either UL or OSU I think we are in the mix, didn’t need to be perfect, just a little better.

I am skeptical of reports that the Big10 would adjust previous requirements just to get OSU into the Big10 Championship game. No way Indiana, Northwestern and my guess most other Big10 programs would let happen.

Its only Tuesday and who knows what other Covid cancellations take place.

IMO the Buckeyes would rather be playing this week, but playing the 2nd place game against Iowa or Wisconsin probably doesn't hurt them too much vs NW.

IMO the National Media is ignoring the bigger issue with Ohio State's 2020 season - THEIR STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE SUCKS!!

OSU has beat 1 team with a record above .500- Indiana. In prior years SOS has been a big data point in the playoff discussion.
