I was going to mention this because @MartyFine pointed it out earlier this week. If ISU had won at Okie State at the end of the 76 season, the Cyclones were going to the Orange Bowl.
Not necessarily.

A couple of things are different about this December game. First, the weather will be 100 percent better than the Drake game; and second we are at least playing a conference opponent that will get the players attention. ISU is playing for a chance to have the best record in the Big 12 regular season.Anybody at all worried about the let down game that CW eludes to? For some reason, it would just seem so Iowa State to lose the game tomorrow. It kind of feels like our December game from 2 years ago that served no real purpose in the grand scheme of things. Yes, I realize that there is at least something on the line to be gained here, but the guys are essentially guaranteed a spot in the Big 12 Championship game. We seem ripe for an upset.

Kansas put the nail in Charlie Strong's coffin.ISU could play well tomorrow and still get beat. It's going to take a great effort.
Tbh I'm more concerned with Texas screwing it up although you'd think they couldn't lose to KU next week if you paid them.

Not any more. This team takes care of business. I’m half-expecting a KSU-like beatdown.
Yes, they could. West Virginia will be every bit as tough as Texas was last week. Might be even better defensively, albeit they don't have the same horses on offenseISU could play well tomorrow and still get beat. It's going to take a great effort.
FIFYOh how I wish I was this realistic
I agree. I don’t give much respect to the opinions of those who would doubt this senior class. Their work here is not done yet.Not any more. This team takes care of business. I’m half-expecting a KSU-like beatdown.
lol huh...they are both ny6 bowls with a ton of history...Its because I'm still locked into the BCS naming of bowl games but the Fiesta seems like a bigger bowl than the Cotton.
Just weird, I know.
I know. I'm saying the Fiesta was a BCS bowl and the Cotton wasn't.lol huh...they are both ny6 bowls with a ton of history...

I'm torn. On one hand I feel like the old ISU fan mentality - worry about every game until it's actually over. But on the other hand, I do sense that this team just might be different.
We're 4-1 in games decided within a touchdown, but if you look closer we're better than that. TCU scored a meaningless TD at the end of the game, and I don't think the baylor game was really that close especially given the huge head start we gave them. I also think (especially looking back) that the Louisiana game was majorly affected by covid (contact tracing preventing practice) and Kolar being out.
Every other game (win or lose) outside of the KSU game, it's felt like we played maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10.
I think if we show up with a 6 or 7 out of 10 against Baylor, we'll be fine. If we show up with a 5 and the ball doesn't bounce our way a few times (turnovers), we could be in trouble. All that said, my sense is that MC has these guys locked in a hungry. They've gotten a bite or two, but are not at all satisfied.
I thought this same thing but didn’t say anything because I was the only one. The Statue of Liberty play still comes to mind about everytime someone says Fiesta BowlIts because I'm still locked into the BCS naming of bowl games but the Fiesta seems like a bigger bowl than the Cotton.

I give them credit aplenty. The actual problem is, I think ISU is even better than some people are giving them credit for.I feel like WVU is better than people are giving them credit for.
