Green Bean Casserole

there's not much better than a really good GBC. i'm the designated chef for that during holidays.

my grandma used to make a killer scalloped corn and oyster casserole, which i've convinced my mom to start making.

i'll also never forget the first time i brought my wife (from the western Chicago burbs) out to my grandparents' farm for dinner. THAT was the day she learned that ham balls are real.

I don't think it holds up as well as my wife's corn casserole. I'm still eating ham balls that are as good as they were when they first came out the oven. But yes, these are all solid choices.

Haven't had those in forever... Have a good recipe?

Wife makes a couple dessert type salads that are awesome. Only had one this year because it was just the four of us. We had the snicker salad with granny Smith apples. It never lasts through the evening. The other is a strawberry jello concoction with a pretzel crust.

Stuffing.
Stuffing with cranberries and sausage.
All the stuffing.

With that said, the jalapeno angle is intriguing and the wife likes jalapenos.

Going to do research and report back.

Jello with whatever can fruit you have in the pantry.

Typically she makes one with and one without. The one with is always the first one gone.

The stuffing is a good call too. Especially stuffing with some really good gravy.

Ham balls are definitely a solid holiday food.

In Colorado, they have never heard of ham balls - or pork tenderloins.

I mean, Neanderthal, am I right.

We have been converting them one neighbor at a time.

Challenge is getting good pork in Colorado.

Corn casserole is like mac and cheese but with corn. REALLY good, especially with some gravy. I'd put it as #1 and green beans as #2. But put them side by side and mix 'em a little...even better.

I love a good Hotdish for Thanksgiving be it green bean or tater tot.

This year my brother made a really good buffalo chicken dip and I have taken to mixing it with the leftover mac and cheese. Now it is a spicy mac and cheese with chicken in it. Absolutely heaven on earth..

That might be the best part of holiday food, mixing it together.

Get a bowl, base layer stuffing, then corn, then mashed potatoes, then turkey topped with gravy. Delicious .
