Any Recruiting News?

Where would this class rank nationally? This is an absolute haul.

if they had landed Facundo or a top 10 guy, nationally would be a top 5 class. Guessing it will be considered top 10 though. Lot of depth and talent in this class and our staff is one of the best at developing guys. Class started off slow, but finished really strong

Agreed. Probably in the 7ish range right now.

2022 is off to a good start, hopefully a few more hammers coming our way in that class.

Can someone tell me a little more about this kid? I don’t know as much about him.

Others might know more. He's a 3-time state medalist at the AAA level in PA (8th, 5th, 3rd).

Has some nice wins. Most notably, he beat Jagger Condomitti in the quarterfinals of the 2019 PA state tourney. Lost to current ISU wrestler Cam Robinson in the semis.

Also, got jobbed out of a 3rd place finish at Super 32 this year. Bogus DQ when his opponent planted himself on his head trying to flip out of a single.

The incident happens at about the 6:50 mark if you have Flo.

If he did transfer to ISU, how would he fit in the lineup with weights and eligibility? Does he have a redshirt? We’re getting a bit older in that part of the lineup. Anyone have any insight?

I'd consider Blockhus if he were interested... redshirted in '19 and had a pretty solid season last year. Notable wins over Tristan Moran, Tariq Wilson, Dusty Hone.

Does he fit our roster? Not sure... Parker/Degen seniors at 141/149 (unknown if they'll take the bonus year). Beyond that we've got Zach Redding (141) and Cam Robinson (149) who are freshmen this year. Next year we'll add Connor Knopick (141) and Paniro Johnson (possibly a yea or two at 149, might get to big). Then we already have a commit from Swiderski in '22 who's a likely 141/149.

So we've certainly invested a good deal in the 141/149 range on the recruiting trail. Not sure he'd be a priority or real "need" and he may be looking for a more surefire starting sport than he might find in our room over the next few years.

I'd probably pencil in Austin Gomez (health dependent) at 141 after this year. Not sure if Blockus is big enough for 149 or not, but I like Cam Robinson's potential there. I'm guessing he ends up at an NDSU or SDSU type school that might have more scholly money to offer.

Didn’t see that one coming. Had to do some research on Phulka. Seems like a solid addition.

Thoughts?

I hope this is not the big addition we were waiting for. I guess it’s nice to have another body around, but I’d take Chase Straw to beat this guy any day.

I think he was registered at 70 this weekend. +2kg makes that 158 so very possible he goes 149 this coming year. It looked like he was a big part of UNI now and the future. Why the transfer? He would be welcome here, the kid is a hammer.

Yeah, the guy seems solid enough, it will be great having him around and training, but it's not a very "splashy" announcement.

I thought someone said there was going to be a good workout partner for Kyven coming in. This dude is at 79kg.

I'm still holding out hope for Dom Bradley.
The dude would be great for Kyven and our heavy's.
I have a hard time seeing him leave Mizzou, but hey, it's 2020, crazy crap seems to happen every day.

It didn’t work very well the first time so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Fair point.

Get Ty Walz from VA Tech with the Dresser connection? Zillmer from MN, just cause? Maybe, we're after another international name?

It'd be nice to get a solid workout partner for Gadson for this Olympic cycle who has aspirations to stay on for the next cycle as well.
