Where are the locations in the Ames are for COVID tests? Are there free ones? What’s the turnaround time?

as holidays approach I’m trying to get my parents to find locations just in case they want to get tested. They have been in the past but it’s been a few months and I can tell they’re getting nervous about the holidays.

any information would be great

Test Iowa is out in the research park with drive thru testing according to the test Iowa page, not sure of the cost though.

Test Iowa should be free. And, any other clinic or hospital doing testing should be free if you have insurance. I think anyway.

We have free testing here in Wake Forest. Drive through, had results in 7 hrs.

We did the Test Iowa drive-thru when we were potentially exposed via our child, but we had to have cause to qualify for it. I do know that you can also get it through several of the local clinics - here in Ames that would be McFarland or Primary Health Care, I think. I believe insurance covers the swabbing, or else there is the HRSA program for the uninsured.

Test Iowa doesn't require cause anymore. You do have to complete a questionnaire and schedule an appointment but anyone can get one.

I did the Test Iowa test and it took 2.5 days to get results back. This was about a month ago.

That's awesome! That was in late August that we went, so that makes sense that it's evolved.

I've been to the test Iowa site in Ames in Research Park before a couple of times. Results back 22-24 hours. Niece had it done on Friday and got the results in 30 hours unfortunately she tested positive.
