I'm super excited about the '20 class. I don't think '21 will be as good but it honestly doesn't need to be. You are looking at Harris, Bolton, Jackson, Johnson, Hinson and Conditt plus the '20 recruits, that's a solid group especially when you throw Hunter in the mix. There isn't a ton of PT or even a likely role that will need filled. Talent wise, it's tough to beat the team he had Monte's senior year but that roster looks to be Prohm's deepest, most versatile and balanced roster he's had here.

We could have Young and J C-L back, too, if they wanted another year of graduate school/college ball.

I know stuff will change, but as of now, we'd return everybody (minus transfers or those two if they want to call it a career) and pick up Hinson off the redshirt and Hunter coming in from high school.

PGs = Harris, Jackson, Walker, Hunter
SGs = JCL, Bolton
Wings = Hinson, Johnson, Blackwell, Dubar
Bigs = Young, Conditt IV, Foster

...and that's 13.

The kid from IHCC who would now fill a glaring roster need is Tomas Woldetensae. Prohm had another opportunity to address the PG need in the spring and didn't.
Woldetensae was not a PG tho. Also that was the 2019 Class.

Tyler Harris was 7th on his own Memphis team for assist metrics so one should really hope Prohm has done his PG coaching magic if he’s going to be our primary ball handler this season

With the success that Prohm has had getting PGs to the league, should we second guess which way he’s steering that (at least for the pg position) ship before we see how things turn out?

Sure - i hope prohm can work his magic with Harris and he can be a serviceable p5 PG. i had similar hopes for Nixon and was let down. Prohm is good with PGs but he’s not batting 1000

To be fair last years Memphis team was built around defense and had zero spacing or playmaking. It was ugly. Tyler is going to have to prove himself but his offensive numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

how should i take his defensive rating numbers?

Actually wasn’t Memphis the exact opposite of being based on defense last year? I thought it was an experiment in running more of a pro style type offense and less emphasis on d?

To the Tyler Harris note, there are a few clips on here from his games last year where he was absolutely all up in the guy who he was guardings business. I think if you push the defense with him, he will be fine.

Also, we’re longer at other positions this year. Having conditt,x and to a lesser extent a healthy solo to erase drives will help this year. Last year conditt was to green (let’s hope he matured in the offseason), and solo wasn’t 100%. You also have more length on the wing with Johnson, Dubar, and the other guys. Lewis and Griffey had the length to be those guys last year but didn’t have the wherewithal to know where they needed to be so they didn’t see the court. The only problem you may run into is if a team has a of and sg that is exceptional at backing opponents down AS WELL has the bigs and wings capable of making outside shots to pull conditt,x, or solo away from the hoop.

Ultimately Harris’s shortcomings are purely situational and I don’t think they’re near as detrimental as people paint them on here.

To the Memphis O I think it was just a bunch of ugly 1 on 1 with a bunch of huge dudes who can't shoot.

I agree with about all of this though. I dont have any qualms with Harris' D, just that he will get the gauntlet in pick and roll do to his size. The extra length at the wing is going to help a lot this year.

Way up there
In the transfer season, I don't think Prohm was really looking for a PG. He offered a couple guys early but IMO that was more bc they were just some of the best guys out there. It's not like Rasir was the reason we weren't good after Tyrese went down.

Prohm will regret prioritizing Harris over Buggs if an efficient facilitator doesn’t emerge on the current roster.
