So where do we stand now on the OL?

Yea a UL sun belt team that finished last year ranked ahead of alot of P5 teams in final rankings who finished 11-3 and will not lose a game rest of year IMO.. Should we still have won? yes...but "Lousy sun belt team"? uhm no. THey will win the Sun belt.

UL had more guys drafted into the NFL last year than ISU has had in past 5 years..

That's how bad this program was when CMC took over.

As for the OL...They played well at times and in 1st half opened some nice holes for Breece and protected Purdy...Then Downing goes down and it all goes to shitter...That is on CMC and staff.

I was hoping that when a linemen got hurt that the backup would at least not be horrible this year. Now Downing is the best guy, but still, with all those guys, you would think there would be one guy that would be able to hold their own a little. Maybe CMC just doesn't trust those younger guys in that situation. Maybe he will have someone else ready for the TCU game.

Any word on how serious Downing and Hudson's injuries are?

This doesn't have to do with the o-line really, but since it involves a sack (giggity) I'll post it here.... What the hell was Purdy thinking on that play where he left the pocket and ran toward the sideline but then just slowed way down and took a sack? The defender was chasing him for a while. Did he think the guy just magically disappeared?

I didn't see as terrible a performance as is being lauded. They were pushing people around in the first half. Second half Manning was panicking and abandoned the run but Hall may also be hurt.

Overall I give them a C. First half was pretty good, second half there was no rhythm and the receivers were abysmal. Not the Olines fault the receivers can't get open on timing routes. Louisiana was sending heat pretty often as well, something Manning and Campbell still have trouble dealing with. Draws, screens and counters are something we almost never run. Probably why teams pin their ears back against so much...

I find it hard to believe we don’t have a better tackle available than Foster. Great kid, but not starting material.

I haven’t paid enough attention to the whole line but they are doing a disservice to him by playing him at LT. Kid can run block but doesn’t have the feet for LT. Seems more of a fit at guard. He should be on the field but that’s on coaches that he’s in wrong spot. Just my opinion as a casual observer.

I'd guess that Hufford, Treiber, and Hudson are probably upgrades over the walkon and Foster... Remember last bowl game when, rather than playing Ramos, we shuffled the entire line around to play older guys?

I haven't watched the replay yet, but other than downing, it seemed like Ramos was our best performing lineman Saturday. Notice that every time they ran off the right side, Ramos was able to seal the edge? It seemed like Foster was whiffing every other play in pass pro...

Campbell always says he plays guys "too late" rather than "too early." He's also intensely loyal to kids in his program. I have zero doubt in my mind that Treiber > Foster and Hufford/Hudson > Walkon kid.. We'll see if Campbell has the stones enough to just play over the older guys in a few weeks.

Last year's o-line was decent at best. Most of the starters this year were backups to the decent 2019 starters. We expected the 2019 backups to be good in 2020? Not happening.

Ramos played well, I feel like there is a decent core with he, Newell and Downing. Foster always seems like he's on the ground, that's a huge red flag for an OL. I thought we had heard from CMC how great the OL recruiting had been the last couple of seasons, I'd rather go with those young kids than stick it out with these guys who have proven themselves to be what they are.

I really would have like for treiber brings to the table, Foster has had his chances to shine.

Ramos was great. Like you mentioned he sealed the edge every time we ran outside right.

I know Purdy is good but when we throw 30+ times a game we lose. It's the same thing year after year, we try to get cute in critical situations rather than just doing what needs to be done. Breece needs 25+ carries a game, period, end of story and if the OC can't see that then he needs to be fired.

The fumble killed Breece. Not only from a game perspective, but also that he got benched for a while.
I don't remember how much time he missed but it seems like it was the next 3-4 series.

I'm sorry, but Kene is just not a good running back. Every year we hear how fast he is, but he's never looked good as a between the tackles back.

Have we heard where Jirehl was on Saturday? Hurt, suspended? Maybe I've missed that, but I don't remember seeing his status in any of the post game reporting.

Breece didn't get benched for the fumble. The schedule was Breece 2 series then Kene. It just happened that Breece fumbled on his 2nd series. He was back in on the 4th series.

Make the easy play. You can get caught up in the moment during competition, but if you watch pro teams, they just make the easy play most of the time.

Any updates on the OL injuries? The guys that are playing are working hard, but Downing and Ramos were starters for a reason. Is Hudson back up to full speed? Seems like he was hurt, but I have seen him in spot play.

Any word on Milton or the freshman WR Jackson?

No good news on Milton, Ramos or Downing. Don't expect to see them anytime soon.
