Winter Weather - 10/18 - 10/19

Snow squalls are a new distinction I think. But they simply describe, brief heavy snow that will cause travel problem. Think 50 car pile ups that happen because people are too stupid to slow down.
That can happen on a sunny day. Hell, I saw a five-car pileup on south duff last Wednesday. How freaking fast do these idiots have to go?

Were there any power outages? The snow didn't seem that heavy. I remember in 97' around this time of year a big snow came through, but much wetter and heavier. I think in central Iowa we almost had a foot, but it was the weight. Thousands of people lost power because the leaves catching all that sticky, heavy snow. This is probably the most I've seen since then.

All the trees that might have taken down the wires came down in the Derecho.

You have a point. It is interesting how the events happen in coinciding seasons except this time the derecho came before the early snow. In October 97 was the early heavy snow, then in June of 98 was that derecho that tore through almost the same path as this last one.
