Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime actually sucks now. Not sure why we still do it. I don't remember the last time we got 2 Day Shipping, the main reason we started it, and the deals are not that good anymore. Target is better than Amazon and doesn't have an annual fee.

But their streaming service is actually pretty solid in addition to he shipping. I really only use Amazon for purchasing specific things I can't find at stores or repair parts.

I don’t even bother checking Amazon on Prime Day anymore, it has always sucked as far as I could tell and has never been anything special. It’s like a sale at a rug store. There’s always a sale going on 365 days a year.

I think the wife bought a robot vaccum this morning but I'm not seeing anything yet. I keep checking lightning deals but so far nothing that's got me too excited. Lots of other places I like do have some damn good deals. Acme Tools has 10% off Milwaukee and Rockler has a whole bunch of stuff on sale today too.

Same. I don't care much about the other services that Prime gets me. But 2-day shipping is no longer a thing for me, apparently. It's not even shipping delays from what I can tell. It takes a week for me to get the shipping notification. It's purely their logistic issues.

I cancelled our membership last month.

I picked up a Garmin Vivoactive 4 watch for $200 - regularly $350 & I haven't been able to find it any cheaper over the last couple months.

Was also considering the Arlo 3 Pro two camera set for $300 - not a prime day deal but still a limited time sale - anyone use those?

I've been looking at the Arlo 2's. I need four cameras. I'm not sure the 3's are a big enough upgrade to justify the cost.

If you live in suburbia. You don't need a Prime membership. Pick-up at most big box stores is same day. When is the last time you actually got something in 2 days or less on Amazon? It was taking a week before we cancelled in July

Plus, 95% of their content on Prime video is garbage.

At least when it comes to 4K movies and TV's, I'm totally disappointed. I'm finding 4K movies that I've considered purchasing in the past that were less expensive than they're being offered today. For as much $$$ as Amazon brings in and for as much as we pay for our memberships, these "Prime Days" should blow us away.

There will never be a windfall tax again if there isn't one for Amazon's covid cash bonanza.

Color me unimpressed as well.

If anyone is a fan of The Office and devastated that it will be leaving Netflix in a few months, the entire series can be purchased on dvd for $34 today. I already own the DVD set but purchased the limit of 2 today. Will make good gifts.

The deleated scenes, commentary, extended episodes, and bloopers make it worth it at this price if you like The Office.

I'm kind of surprised so many people have had issues getting stuff delivered in 2 days. Of our last 10 orders, 6 were delivered in 2 days & 3 were delivered next day.. Maybe it's cause we're so close to their Grimes hub?

That said, yeah, I probably wouldn't pay for Prime, either. I've been on my college roommate - errr, I mean brother's account for the last ~7 years. If I had to pay I'd probably just use the various other options out there.

There was a time when prime video was better than netflix for a sci fi fan. Little by little all that's left is star trek that will be gone soon.

My favorite show is the x-files. For a while I started streaming instead of my dvds/blu-ray, it moves around services enough that the DVDs are more convenient again.

Same thing about commentary tracks.

My only issue has been on small items they have UPS deliver to the post office and then it takes a day or two more to actually get delivered to me via the mail.

I agree for stuff carried at the big box stores. But with things like repair parts for appliances and cars, the big box stores just don't carry them.

Shoes are another thing that I like Amazon for. Stores carry one or two styles and colors. Amazon has a lot more choices, especially for kids. And now with wardrobe, just order several sizes and only keep the owns that fit.

If your interest is strictly movies, then I agree with you, but I've enjoyed a number of their shows. The Boys, Utopia, Jack Ryan, Hanna, Man in the High Castle were all entertaining.

Outside of Jack Ryan and Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I can't think of another show or movie I've watched in the past year on Prime. Between a new baby, Disney+, Netflix and YouTube TV we are always satisfied and don't need another payment. Amazon was an easy cut

I know nothing about rug stores. I'm now intrigued.
