That 9-3 looks nice, but it isn't ever going 11-1 and playing in Dallas.
I'll take the 8-4 and be an SP+ all-star that might do something special occasionally.
Campbell has been successful at ISU...no arguments there.
However, it seems something changed at the end of last season. ISU has not played well in four straight games spanning 2 seasons, the last game being against a G5 team. Fortunately, the first game in that string was KU, and ISU rallied from a 4th quarter deficit, or it would be four losses in a row. The team has looked rather flat in all of those games. Except for the 4th quarter of the KU game, the ISU offense has been stuck in the mud.
Going back one game further, to the UT game last year, if one takes out that good quarter against KU, over the last 19 quarters, ISU is averaging 4.4 points/quarter. 17 ppg doesn't work in the Big 12. ISU has been shut out in 7/20 quarters over the last 5 games. All those offensive records last year basically came through the first 9 games. Defenses seem to have figured out ISU's offense.
One can appreciate that Campbell has accomplished good things at ISU and still be concerned about the present direction of the team. The two are not mutually exclusive. All the cultural changes will fade away if the wins don't come. That's just the way it is.
I hope the offense get things straightened out.
I agree with all of this. Campbell and Rhoads are not comparable. My point is simply that I'd rather play a crap noncon every year and go 8-4 or 9-3 versus being SP+ all stars and go 7-6.
Matthew Downing named the starting QB for TCU on Saturday.
I thought this thread was Max Duggan cleared to play Saturday instead of a thread comparing coaches.
Clones -2.5 better not let me down nowMatthew Downing named the starting QB for TCU on Saturday.
Where did you see that he had major heart surgery?Meh, until Patterson confirms Duggan as the starter, or we see him on the field this Saturday, I think this is just gamesmanship. Can't see anyone recovering from major heart surgery THAT fast.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. We’re still recruiting 250 lb offensive linemen.I remember recruiting 250 lb offensive lineman because they had "frame potential".
I don’t look at recruiting rankings. I look at how good the players are.I'd strongly advise you not to look at this year's recruiting rankings then.

I realize that takes a little more effort, but...it makes more sense to me.
Listen, I get it was a weird recruiting cycle, and I'm all for giving him a pass. But you can't make a class out of guys that very few other P5 coaches wanted. I'm glad you're watching tape and all, but to me the offer lists are the big thing I look at. If we are the only P5 team that wants a kid, that typically isn't a great sign, and we seem to have an abnormally high amount of kids without other P5 offers this year.
Watching highlight tape on You Tube with no clear understanding of the level of competition they are playing against doesn't do a ton for me. I'll trust the coaches who evaluate for a living. If CMC and Co. think that a kid can play here, then great. I just get nervous when we are one of the few to see that.
1.) I trust the judgment of the staff.
2.) A lof of these kids could have picked up additional interest if they could have camped this summer.
3.) We are still going to add a lot to this class.
Bill Snyder did it at K-State. Worked very well for them. ISU should drop the Iowa game, IMO. Or play a two on, two off with them.
