Pollard press conference today

Did they define mask? Regardless, if that's what I have to do to see a game I just might be tempted to put on a bandanna.

Just in the past couple days you told us the brain's executive function switches off if you wear a mask. Certainly if you actually believed that, you wouldn't voluntarily enter a stadium with 25,000 braindead zombies.

Unless of course you know the articles you post on this website are in fact, ********.

Don’t worry. Someday you will be able to leave your house with your skirt again.

My friend in Taiwan has had an almost completely normal life through the entire thing with no businesses being closed at all. With one exception...they wore masks like their lives depended on it from the start. It worked, it can work anywhere with fit leadership.

It's almost like they had been through this same thing before and knew exactly what to do from experience rather than wishing and hoping.

Amazing that someone can still not understand what "flatten the curve" meant this far into the virus.
Moronic. I know you like to rewrite history but that was never the only thing that needed to be done.

We also learned more about it and learned you can't just "flatten" it at high levels without it immediately taking off again. Most other countries have shown us that it is possible to knock this down to the levels it needs to be, but people like you are why we can't get there.

Since that point early on we also learned a lot more about the long-term effects of the virus and the effects it has on other systems of the body, so we were concerned with more than just deaths, making it all that much more important to smash things down

So if that’s the case, then why do so many have such a problem with fans being allowed into a stadium? All who are required to wear a mask?

Imagine someone who thinks every surgeon in the past 100+ years has had their brain turned off during surgery.

probably because we don’t think people will wear masks.

I get this vibe from many people on this site that I legitimately think believe that they think that if they step outside to mow their yard, they’ll catch Covid.

There are plenty of things that people can do that are low risk. An event with tens of thousands of fans is not one of them. That you can't understand the difference is stupidity

It could work in a society where leadership universally lifts up wearing masks like we did with all industry pitching in to battle fascism in WWII.

A key difference is a more enlightened response like Taiwan's meant the virus numbers never got high to begin with. My hope is that the next time this happens some of the stubborn/ignorant people from this round will have learned from their mistakes and we get a much better jump on it.

We have far too many people who see wearing a mask as oppression when it is the best hope for freedom. They've been led astray, they traded in true hard fought freedom for cheap and easy lack of responsibility.

I hope I'm wrong and see images of thousands of people all spaced out and appropriately wearing masks. I think the spacing part is probably impossible for 25k at least at the beginning and end of each half.

Cool, then don't go.

Credit to Jamie. He’s laid out the plan, doing a presser, understands he’ll be asked about the increase in cases in Ames (which everyone knew would happen), he’ll answer and give the justification to attempt to move forward. Not everyone will like his answers or decisions, but I appreciate the leadership and ability to over communicate in these times.

There is likely a spike coming in Ames even if we canceled football for all eternity...so when it happens now it will be more tricky to say if it was from the realities of students moving in or 25k at a game and the inevitable increase in activity around town.

I do think it is good for the state to not have student section, as much as I cherish those memories of especially my first fall as a freshman. If there is a spike at ISU as it seems there is at most colleges that have opened, it's a horrible idea to mix that with 25k people driving from around the state.

You and I aren't exactly simpatico on this issue overall but 100% agree here. I don't think this is a justifiable position considering what is going on in story county.

Contrast it to New Jersey just now opening up indoor dining because their #s have gotten low.

Imagine a statement that a state was reopening indoor dining for the first time because they had hit #1 for covid rate for the first time. It would be laughed at.

A large part of my business depends on people being in the world's largest theme parks and in movie theaters.

Those places are open in a normal way in some other countries that genuinely controlled the outbreak compared to us. They aren't open in a widespread normal way here in the USA. Ignore the potential health risks for a moment, I highly question that the way we are going about things even makes sense from a purely money driven perspective. Every week I see our sales totals, other countries range from 20-70% of normal sales. US sales are below 5% of normal.

The usual suspects will again mark this reality I see every day as funny/dumb/fake news, but it's hard data I can't ignore. The #1 hotspot state in the country having a football game with 25,000 fans doesn't seem to show learning from our mistakes. New Jersey just opened indoor dining because their #s are among the best in the country right now, they didn't do that because they had the worst numbers.
I’ve got news for ya, NJ had the worst numbers in the US for quite a while. And that’s why they can do what they’re doing now.

Our group of 6 was waiting to see what happened before officially deferring. To defer, do we just have to call the ticket office?
When I called, they asked me to send an email so that they had a paper trail. They sent a receipt notice immediately, followed by an email a day or so later indicating that they had made the changes I requested.

Roughly half the people wearing masks don't have them over their nose anyways so they might as well not be wearing them.

How people can mess up something so basic is mind boggling.

Or the ones in HyVee who take off their mask to talk on the phone. That's an impressive level of stupid too.
