Society has lost the ability to tell the difference between a news report and an editorial or an opinion from someone what also reports the news. Anyone that throws all of “media” into the trash generally falls into this category. CBS, NBC, NYT, and evening Fox have both reporting AND editorial and entertainment. People would be happier if they could recognize the difference.
Journalism has also stopped keeping those things (reporting and editorializing) separate, so it's naturally becoming harder for consumers to separate the two.
I've noticed it quite a bit in sports coverage. There used to be a clear line of demarcation -- game recap on one side, column on the other. Now, those two elements are being mashed together into one "story."
I don't need writers putting their thoughts and hot takes about the game in the recap. That's the purpose of a column.
