Lots of debris in my back yard (shingles, siding, part of the neighbors tree).
Up in my crawl space now trying to keep the water dripping through my roof from getting any worse.

In west Des Moines we still have electricity (I haven’t lost power in 11 years). Lots of trees and large branches down. But maybe not as bad as other places.

Just got off the phone with my mom, my parents farm had some major damage. They had 3 grain bins completely destroyed and a fourth had the top torn off. Their steel machine shed had part of the roof torn off and one of the north walls was bowed out. They also had a large window in their dining room broken and their Traeger grill was tossed off their deck. My dad's pickup had the back window broken out. Luckily, nobody was hurt during all of that.

Some roof damage for me. Nothing super serious, and I'm pretty lucky compared to others.

Just heard US Cellular had 40 towers blow down in this storm. CenturyLink is out in our neighborhood in Clive. Wife called in and they anticipate being down until 7:30pm.

Friend over by Cedar Rapids lives on a farm south of there and had all his outbuildings blow down and they aren't so sure their house isn't shifted as well. Winds as high as 106mph in his area

I35 was shut down. Family trying to get home counted 6 semis blown over before they were routed off the interstate. Glad we shut them down in Dows and didn't drive into that mess.

Headed south, definitely wise. Headed north, you probably were out of it around there.

They were definitely heading south. Routed off the instate in Ames so those six were North of Ames. Dows got very little.

Live in WDSM and we are out of power. Talked to a WDSM city worker the city has 4200 power lines down. They are working hard to get streets clear. I headed downtown and heading down grand and ingersoll there were power lines down covering road.

Be careful with that stuff. Last year we had a storm between me and work. Was driving and saw something that was off. Realized when i was in the middle everything that a ground wire was down and weaving back and forth on the road. Thankfully just a ground wire, otherwise that may have been the end of me.

I drove over one. I had literally no idea as it was right next to a single small branch. As I realized what I was about to do I took my foot off the pedals and moved my hands off the wheel. As if that was somehow going to save me. I laughed at me as I kept driving.

Sadly, not that kind of pear tree.

We have a Bradford pear (non fruit bearing). Seventy MPH winds seems to be the max that it can handle. I can count the number of high wind storms we have had over the years based off the remnants of major limbs that have broken off. I haven't seen first hand damage of the results from this storm but from what I am told it sounds like this one might have been the final blow.

You’d probably be ok in your car even if you contacted a power line. But NEVER try to get out of your car while contacting a line. Happens once in a while with tall equipment. Stay put and wait for help.
