Thursday OT - For No Good Reason

OK - I'm ready for all y'all to laugh at me. :D
The TV was in my parent's bedroom, so we only got to watch maybe an hour or so in the evenings. And there were only three channels. Wonderful World of Disney was appointment TV on Sunday nights...complete with popcorn every week.

No Saturday morning cartoons.

No TV after school unless I went over to my best buddy's house. HIS parents let him watch Mickey Mouse Club EVERY DAY!!! (that was sooo neat!). My favorites were the Spin & Marty episodes - especially when they added Moochie (Kevin Corcoran).

Sad to say, I can STILL sing the whole song.

We weren’t allowed just to vegetate on Saturday mornings with cartoons but we’d often be allowed to watch bugs bunny late in the morning after our chores were done. And it was followed by some sort of movie. And sometimes we’d watch part of those.

there was one movie that was called cougar or something like that. It was a pioneer type family that was poor and starving and the parents had to leave to find food. They left the kids and while they were gone a big rain storm dislodged the house and it floated down thd river. Once it landed the kids didn’t know where they were and the big cat got into the house and started breaking things. I never made it to the end of the movie (it was always still going on at lunch) but I had nightmares for decades about it.

Happy Days - When Fonzie jumped the shark because, literally, he was the first one to jump the shark.

Dallas - When JR got shot.

Charlie's Angels - When Cheryl Ladd was standing naked behind the pal frond. Why couldn't they have moved the palm frond?

MASH - When MacArthur visits the camp and Klinger is the only person he salutes.

MTV Sandblast was some high quality programming. The basic premise was "what if American Gladiators, but on the beach with sexier competitors?" There was this goofy-ass launch pad thing that you had to stomp on to propel you over an obstacle and I remember wondering how many torn ACLs that thing caused.

And I think a pre-fame Kevin James was involved IIRC.

The Planet of the Apes had a TV show in prime time as well as a cartoon series. My brother and I loved everything PotA.
I also loved Jonny Quest (the original) - best cartoon ever, imho.
The one show that has stood the test of time has been Hogan's Heroes! I purchased the entire series on DVD - all three of my daughters (college-aged) love the show.

The thing that first comes to mind that both fascinated and freaked 7 year old (or so) me out was the fembots from several Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman episodes. Good god, they're beyond hokey now. But, considering the era, the effects were actually pretty ok.

Btw, I LOVED Thundarr the Barbarian. :D

I watched a ton of Full House as a kid cause my mom has all the seasons on DVD and that, and Mighty Ducks trilogy, was all we ever had in the car (with a DVD player) for some reason. I pretty much single handedly won our group a big bar tab with Full House trivia at Paddy’s a couple years ago in college. Now I’ve been going back through watching it again on Hulu and it’s not as good as I remember

I had a similar experience with Quantum Leap a few years ago. Got all excited when I found out I could stream all the episodes, then quit after a handful of episodes. Some old shows and movies just don't age well for one reason or another.

You young whippersnappers have no clue what great TV was unless you've experienced the LSD-inspired entertainment provided by Sid and Marty Krofft. Now, pass the bong and welcome to my childhood Saturday mornings:

Hey Arnold! - Stoop kid episode

Ren and Stimpy - Happy happy joy joy

Does anyone remember Farnald Degand? (Probably spelling that incorrectly.) Whenever he would get on the court, Janny and I would yell "HEY FARNALD" because Hey Arnold! was awesome.

Farnold. Looked him up - you're probably the reason he transferred to NC State after his freshman year! ;)

Edit: FWIW - he played for a Haitian national team at one point (he's not actually from Haiti, but his ancestry is there).

My youngest was watching the reboot of Muppet Babies this morning (it's crap, by the way - no Rolf, Scooter, or Skeeter, instead they added in some penguin, which doesn't even make sense because the nursery is neither cold nor in water). Anyway. It made me flash back to the original show, when there was an homage to Raiders of the Lost Ark where Kermit had to run away from a big rolling rock in one of their fantasies. Then it made me think about other shows from my youth where I vividly remember one specific episode. I remember an episode of Alvin & the Chipmunks where they covered the Berlin Wall coming down, and I can still sing the chorus of the song. I remember the Punky Brewster where Cheri hides in the fridge and almost dies. (I remember shows from when I was really, really young, for some reason.) I have, like, dozens more over the years, and I didn't even watch that much TV!

What shows did you love as a child, and there is one particular episode that pops out in your memory? What episode was it?

I used to love Roger Ramjet. It was so stupid. I don't have a favorite episode, but I still remember some of my favorite lines:

Deep authoritative announcer's voice: "And as night fell."
Roger Ramjet: "Ouch"
Boy Kid: "What happened, Roger?"
Ramjet: "I stubbed my toe on a dead concrete."

In another episode, the villain kidnaps the girl kid (I can't remember the names of the four kids in the show) and she's trying to fight back.

Girl kid: "You have a funny nose."

Villain: "Ouch, you really know how to hurt a guy, kid."

I've read some articles about that, too - he's gotten really screwed over a lot. He kind of talked about the leading thing a bit on that episode. He did talk about a superhero show for which he's doing voice acting, I want to say it was "Doom Patrol" or "Doom Squad" or something.

Its doom patrol, and it is fantastic.
