NO FANS AT CYCLONE GAMES?

Who has said the goal is 0 cases? When? Where? Link?

No leader, administration that I know of. I think that is the problem when attempting to resume a semblance of life ( in all walks of life, school, business, sports), when the likelihood of positive cases still being in the community for quite some time. But yet day after day it’s 24/7 case reporting, lead stories, cases/death counters, how long is this profitable? Is there an breaking point to where you can resume life and live with virus?

Of course zero cases is the goal, but is that even possible? How do you get there w/o natural herd immunity or virus burn out or by vaccine? Masks don’t rid you of the virus. All for masks by the way. But if everyone wore masks for 6 weeks until Sept and there is still infections in your community, you still playing? Have your kids in school?

FWIW, I believe schools should be open and sports to continue (though crowds should be limited), due to low to no impact on younger people. That said, WILL it happen, based on the current narrative in the public, not likely.

Imagine that 140,000 deaths in like 4 months is a “narrative”. The lala land of rwnj’s. No blacks, no Jews, Mexicans in cages, a hoax virus created by by a political party, Goya beans, and confederate traitor glorification.

Quicker testing or a reliable treatment would at least help. Ex. the ability for those attending ISU games to make sure they're negative prior to going.

Stuff like strep can be really dangerous (untreated) and contagious, but since there's a quick antibiotic treatment for it to clear up, it's generally not a problem.

It’s still the wrong question. All for masks, wear them, I do. The question for schools and colleges alike is still how much of the virus are they prepared to live with in their community? Masks and social distancing help mitigate to some degree, but doesn’t eliminate the virus and with sheer volume of testing, there will be cases and could be through next year or longer, no one knows. So what is the threshold? How long do you operate at these reduced levels (which clearly have consequences too, see JP’s thoughts).

4% of worlds population, 23% of the deaths. Guess we nailed it! Spare me the replies about data inaccuracy. Of course there are some inaccuracies in this type of data, but 4 is a long way from 23. Maybe we should admit we need to do something different.

Even the White House Task force labels Iowa a “red zone“ state and recommends we limit public gatherings. Under our leadership I doubt iowa does anything. Question - is football a large public gathering? Our statewide, as well as national trends make football unlikely.

Going to be a tough call. Easier in Texas, they will claim freedom of religion for football gatherings since it's the primary and official state religion of The Republic of Texas.

Just read Conservative columnist George Will’s column from 15 July. He said:
“Yesterday (which would be 14July) “Germany, population 80.2 million, had 159 new Covid cases. Florida, population 21.5 million, had 15,300 new cases.”
I think we could live with those type of numbers.
Leadership matters.
Edit - today, Iowa, population 3.1 million people had 879 new cases.

Sounds like we're kicking Germany's ass.

LOL you might want to spread the word. Dan Winters said on the 10:00 news the pandemic would be over if we all wore masks for one month. Suddenly they are a panacea.

Let's at least be forthright that even with masks, we still have a pandemic issue.

How can you be this dense?

I don't know about ending the pandemic in a month, but yes, if we all wore masks, we could significantly curtail the spread of the virus. If we all wore masks and kept 6 feet apart, we could end it much sooner than wearing no masks and not keeping 6 feet apart. How is this so hard to understand? It's not one extreme or the other. Masks aren't a panacea, but they help a lot. Why would you not want to help? Pride?

0.02% of the ENTIRE population of the United States would be about 65,000 deaths due to COVID. You know the deaths are already more than twice that with only a fraction of the population having been infected? You're not being a skeptic, you're being a denier.
