He was 91.

Morricone’s filmography numbers well into the hundreds, a body of work over seven decades that, much like his most famous soundtracks, speaks for itself. But while he will be best remembered for aurally shaping the spaghetti western as we know it—penning legendary scores for everything from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, and Fistful of Dollars, all the way up to his recent, Oscar-winning collaboration with Quentin Tarantino for The Hateful Eight—Morricone’s contributions to the horror genre are likewise iconic.

The movie score I always remember from Sgr. Morricone was from Once Upon A Time In The West. Great western......the denouement with Charles Bronson and (a terrible evil) Henry Fonda is a classic.

That's the one I always think of as well. I think most people will know "Death Rides a Horse":

One of the greatest composers of all time. I thought he died many years ago though. R.i.p.

Fell in love with the long time touring singer Susanna Rigacci.

Considered one of the greatest song tracks, the "The Good the Bad the Ugly" had Ecstacy of Gold which was song originally by the great Edda Dell'Orso. Many were introduced via the movie though, Morcone had a long history of avant garde "songs" with nearly incoherent words and sounds.

Fans of Metallica know many of their tours would have a version of Ecstacy of Gold.
