Agree the spin has moved off of overwhelming the ICUs, but the main stat is now positive test numbers.

Wouldn't the severity of the effects of the disease matter? To go from 50% of patients needing ventilators to 3% as quoted by Orlando Hospitals is more important in my mind than positive test numbers.

IF this type of weakening continues it would be silly to talk of empty stadiums this fall, especially those under 50, maybe even 60.

Its not that hard to figure out a large number of the individuals that had covid deaths would have passed in the next 2-6 months, they had a condition of a comorbidity and many times multiple ones. We saw states were reporting anyone that had covid as a covid death regardless if that was what killed them or not.

I'm not a betting man but I enjoy looking at the odds for games. Is there a line on whether college football will happen this season? That would be fun to watch.

There may not be anything going on because there are so many variables. I think I understand that odds makers only deal with the things they think they know. This may be unknowable.

Of course hospitalizations are going to go up. People didn't go for normal testing/screenings and elective types of surgery from mid/late March through May some later. People need to go have these see these procedures done and we are going to have to catch up on these types of visits.

What is really important is the fact the severity and the need of ventilators is WAY down. Orlando hospitals tell us from 50% down to 3% now!

Ventilator usage is EXTREMELY down, like multiples down across the country.

But that can also be mis-leading as I've seen many articles about medical professionals over-using ventilators this spring, when we knew less about COVID. Now we know more and they are using other methods of treatment. Ventilators can be damaging to some patients and are not always medically neccasary.

Yeah, AZ is really having some problems with LTC facilities. Thankfully the state has more ventilators available today than they did 3 months ago. Despite the increase in usage. Plenty of capacity in the system. Thankful Iowa is doing so much better

So we agree with the exception of the ISU President nobody in Story county will have a final say on fan attendance. ISU President/State will make the call, and part of the input will be what kind of increases the county experiences as students return to school


It would be interesting to as Gov. Abbot of Texas, given his recent mention of limiting events on the 4th of July, if he were to asked based on what he knows right now if they would allow Baylor, Tech, Texas and A&M to have fans at games this weekend. 3 weeks ago he probably says absolutely, now not so sure.

Pollard certainly has to push the positive and glad he is, and hope he is right. Won't know anything til late July/Early August. So might as well keep planning as though some fans will be in attendance.

The ISU President isn't going to make a decision without Jamie's input. In fact I bet she will go with whatever Jamie recommends.

This is not going to be an ISU autonomus decision, and why the state will be involved. You cannot have ISU allow fans and Iowa not nor the other way around.

ISU, Iowa and to a lesser extent UNI, are joined at the hip, unless there is a conference decision that factors into it.

Everything around Covid in the US has been pretty much centered around state mandates.

I think that it needs to be said that because of our testing abilities have gotten very good, they are testing most people who need to be hospitalized for any reason, whether they are sick from the actual virus, sick for another reason, hurt in a car accident, etc. If you test positive for the virus, even if you are not hospitalized because of it, you are counted in the hospitalization numbers.

I agree. But I think the Governor has made it clear that things are opening up and we aren't going back (not being political).

I mean hell my races are now open to fans at full capacity.
