NO FANS AT CYCLONE GAMES?

Infections lead positive test cases by a couple weeks. Positive test cases lead deaths by a couple weeks. The death rate could be decreasing but we will still start seeing deaths increase in the next couple weeks.

For all of those that want to open up and go to games, maybe spend your time arguing for people to start wearing their ******* masks now or we’re going to keep going down this long slow path.

There is a reason most countries that started when we did are back to a semi new normal with less than 5% of the deaths we have... they weren’t a bunch of ignorant, stubborn SOBs that refuse science.

/End thread

We seem to have chosen to do this the hard way and as a result, we're going to pay for it for much longer than necessary.

As far as the AD getting sued, I'm guessing every ticket will be printed with a "If you use this to attend ISU events you're forgoing any right to sue" language on the back. Probably the same for employees and vendors.

Everybody going into the stands is going to sign some sort of waiver, or there will be language about any spectator will assume all risk printed on every ticket. Of that I'd bet my entire life savings on.

Where have you guys been? I don't think I have been to a ticketed event in the last 20+ years that didn't have boilerplate "ticket holder assumes all risks" language in microscopic print on the back of the ticket. It is already there and just about any lawyer will tell you that it is of only limited usefulness to the ticket issuer.

Liberty Bowl ticket issued by ISU Athletics ticket office. And this is just one place the language appears. It all appears a second time on the back of the same ticket.

I get that. Is Iowa State making a decision now? No they are not. I work with an organization that had to cancel an event this summer. When we made that decision we didn’t use out of date information. The same goes here. What part are you not getting that Iowa State isn’t currently making the decision? This doesn’t even need to be a public resolution it can be a behind the scenes conversation between Pollard and the board.

They should absolutely make a recommendation. No one says they shouldn’t. That wasn’t what this was. This was a PR hit job.

This is so nonsensical, on so many levels, that it doesn't warrant a reply.

What countries incurred the virus about the same time as the US and had 5% fewer deaths? China & South Korea. You can't look purely at # of deaths and ignore overall population.

Sure the US could have done a better job, but compared to Western Europe the US death rates per 100k of population is lower.

First, your weather example is just stupid.

Because I don't think we're that far out from making the decision. This isn't something that you can really decide in the last two weeks. I'd be shocked if Iowa State wasn't already discussing what to do. If Iowa State wants more advice later or wants to know if their recommendations have changed, I'm sure they can ask.

As for why did they do it publicly? Because they're concerned that Iowa State will do something that they disagree with and they think it's better for it to be public
If Iowa State is making a decision today then I guess I’m not really against what they did. The problem is there is no indication that is the case. I guess we have a fundamental disagreement on when a decision needs to be made. I don’t think a decision has to be made until August at the earliest. Iowa State absolutely should be having discussions on all sorts of different situations. Again there is no reason for a public declaration either way at this point IMO.

Good work. Not sure how/where you found this info. I've looked before and gave up. It's the sort of stuff that should be a click away.
Yes, hard to find.
78 page document
NCAA Membership Financial Reporting System
Institution : Iowa State University
Tons of even more specific data in the 78 pages.

This really should be merged with the Jim Walden thread.

(If it isn't safe enough for fans then it isn't safe enough for players. Just sayin')

Just read today that E.U. will consider banning travelers from the US due to our poor CV response. They certainly should.
Our current rates are over 2X their rates.

You seem to have this misguided feeling that 'conditions' will change on this between now and then. They won't. Large events will continue to be a major super spread risk until a vaccine is developed and distributed. There are good signs that we aren't far away from this but we most certainly will not have this in place by football season and probably not basketball season. With that being the case there is no reason for the county health board to not give Iowa State as much lead time as possible with its recommendation so that Iowa State can have the most time to make any necessary adjustments

Look at just about any other major event. almost all of them when they cancel are doing it 60 to 90 days out. They aren't waiting until a week or two before

This actually isn't true and this is why we discuss individual risk versus community risk. When we start looking at a much smaller group like just having the teams and staff there the community risk is much lower and probably within ranges that would be more acceptable so long as they are taking the recommended precautions. This is why the health board recommended no fans but didn't say no football entirely. And it's why ultimately I think the ideal situation is to still have the games, to air them on TV but to not have fans present this season

While this thread is mostly about fan attendance, at what point will the NCAA step in especially if some schools decide not to have football? Like them involved or not, there has to be some uniformity when it comes to having games or not. What about the smaller schools (Division 2 & 3) - will some or all cancel while Division I plays? Likely less financial effect on the smaller schools.

I'm guessing that a lot of the schools who choose not to play will do so in a timely manner that allows the other school to figure out their schedule one way or another. There also might be a game here or there that doesn't get played (which happens from time to time due to weather events).

That sounds fantastic, but I'm not on board with putting young athletes at risk for my entertainment during a pandemic unless we are really ******* sure it's safe.

Fun Fact. Post 24 of this thread has around 10 negative reactions. Those same 10 posters are almost all of the people that are constantly saying things against the idea of some form of fans in the stadium for football.

While I've counted at least 36 different accounts have reacted positively towards my posts or posted support themselves about some or limited fans at JTS this fall. Not a single person has said we should fill JTS with 62K or whatever capacity is.

A vocal minority is just as loud as the more silent majority. Why is that?

I'd wager that none of those 10 or very few actually have season tickets in a normal season to football games
Went back and read post #24. Totally disagree with it. I have missed 5 games in 51 years - FWIW

Maybe it will be like back in grade school where you called up your buddies and asked if they wanted to play a game on Saturday.

Ask this question though, if attendance is limited to say 15,000. And you get to go to maybe 2 games all season because of this limit. You get sick on Thursday. You going to the game on Saturday anyway?

According to IDPH website as of this morning:

0 deaths under 18 -- death rate 0%
15 deaths for 19 - 40 years old -- death rate around 0.1%
73 deaths for 41 - 60 years old -- death rate just over 0.8%

of the above 88 deaths all but 8 had a preexisting condition. The 8 who had no preexisting condition were in the 41 - 60 age range.

So far for anyone at 40 and below this has a rate right around normal flu and so far even less so for under 18. No one under 40 died without some sort of preexisting condition.

So we abandon life because of this. This data includes months when the medical field was still trying to figure out how to diagnose and treat, etc. And these rates do not factor in all those asymptomatic persons not figured into the denominators.

So 3 disagree with facts stated? The numbers are right from the state website and cover since March of this year.
