I don't see how this is aimed at Kelly, reading the article, it seems more like a general stance against Covid and maintaining their scholarship if they aren't willing to take the risk to play. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
Now if something comes out that they told kids they had to be there or lose their schollie, that would be bad for Chip. I feel like these issues will be laid on the coaches but in most cases, they don't really have much of a choice. They are at the mercy of AD's and the NCAA just as much as the players are. They all have to do what the money tells them. Without any specifics about Kelly, this just seems like the excuse they are looking for to can him.

If I was a coach I’d go down petrino style instead. Getting busy with a young 20something.
I'm going to need more specific info regarding their reasoning behind not trusting him. I also don't read this as specifically COVID related, more general injury related. That said, 30 guys is a lot and should be reason for UCLA to look into this seriously.
Better to get fired for SOMETHING rather than getting fired for nothing. So long as it's consensual...

Once they start the games with people in the stands it will be full steam ahead.
there will be players and staff and people test positive....and the games will continue to be played..
Testing positive is one thing, having complications due to the virus is another. I guess I can see the NFL happening this year, but I struggle to understand how college football will be able to conduct sufficient testing to keep players safe. If that's at all their goal anyways.
If the amateurism part of college sports wasn't at a breaking point before, trotting players out in an unsafe manner will be a tipping point the NCAA cannot come back from.
I was pretty optimistic that at least a partial would occur. But based on the growth in cases over the past couple weeks, I am beginning to have my doubts.
The reality is it could have happened if more people had the discipline to wear a mask, social distance and avoid large groups.
As a society, we can weather this recent jump in cases. IMO the number of positive test is cause for concern, but hospitalizations is the important Covid metric at this point.
That doesn't hold true for professional or college sports. The combination of sick AND quarantined players can easily jeopardize a team's season because if an outbreak hits a team during practice/playing season the team will be impacted for a month.
Hey brotha, I’m as conservative as they can get. I love my sports and want to say “carry on” as well. But what happens when Tom Brady, Or Patty mahomes OR 20 +plus NFL players get it after week one or two? That’s not even counting college players. These players are automatically out two weeks. What about the older coaches? How do they fair in all this? I’m just saying, there isn’t going to be a full season. They will give it a try tho!
It’s not just football - there aren’t going to be any sports for a good long time, not when MLB can’t get its **** together to even put a part season together, and several teams shutting its clubhouses down, not to mention the Tampa Bay Lightning have shut down camp, Clemson has something like 20 guys testing positive, etc.
