UT's top receiver protesting by saying he won't play

His statement is pretty vague, is there something that can happen that would make him play? Says he's "not going to play another snap knowing what's going on in our society due to color and the system being broken".

Will a particluar law or reform be enough to get him to play, or he just done until racism is gone? (hope he has a good major if so)

Im always interested to see how far a person is really willing to go when their potential for a lucrative livelihood is on the line. Stars in the NBA are now back on the woke train but were defending China because of the money. Its why I dont think Lebron has anything worth while to say at this point. Its clear where his causes stop.

Lets see if he can back it up. My cynicism thinks hell be on that field catching footballs.

I guess what I'm saying is if enough athletes are willing to say the rest of my and my family's life are more important then the next football season they could bring athletic departments to their knees. Universities have already stated they may not be able to survive a lost football season. No justice no football may ring deeper to promote real change.

Won't happen.

Yeah, the China fiasco makes it difficult for me to listen to anything the NBA players have to say. They want their money.

Sounds like it's gaining some traction.

Is it? I honestly have no idea, but I did drop in the to see if anything had ever come from this. I never thought it would (stated that in the thread...vaguely...as soon as the thread was created).

Looks to me like this has gotten shelved, no? I mean, if he wants to make a stand, and he feels that strongly...go for it. If he’s not fulfilling his end of the scholly though (a scholarship IS a 2 way street), he shouldn’t have one. Again...more power to him, but best do this on your own time..,and dime...Mr Hand.

Read the article in #64. Looks like they've got specific demands of racist memorials they want removed from campus. Rather than refusing to play they are refusing to participate in recruiting or fundraising.

I think the song is the one people are going to have the most push back with.

I read the article. I don’t see much happening with those demands though, except maybe statue removal.

The conspiracy theories about the collapse of the Big 12 centers around Texas leaving for another conference.

What conference would want them? They are a giant pain in the bleep and now this.

As for the confederate thing at UT and black player concerns, in many cases they are legit. It's obviously up to Texas to decide how they want to move.

A number of the building names and statuary there really do represent some pretty awful old south stigmas. One building is tagged for a math professor who wouldn't allow black students in his class. Another for a school president who wouldn't admit blacks into UT's law school. Yikes.

Change is part of our history too. Sometimes we have to accept the medicine regardless how bitter the taste if we want to heal our bodies. And yeah, I'm damn glad the Wabash Cannonball wasn't used to haul slaves around Dixie.
