UT's top receiver protesting by saying he won't play

Oddest way I've ever heard someone declare for the NFL draft!

As are many other UT schollie players who peacefully protested with Austin police and who will continue to play football as part of their schollie deal.
Name them.

I’m not suggesting they lose their scholarships. He’s contributing to the program.

Stated nowhere in that article.
Of course it’s not. That wasn’t the point of the linked article. I linked it to show how other UT players are peacefully protesting without threatening to quit the team. And those who quit should lose their scholarship without UT being crucified for it.

My opinion is that standing in the way of your own personal success is not the best way to protest. He will make more changes by rising to the top. I respect his passion. But you cant neglect your responsibilities and expect to remain on scholarship. Just like you cant quit your job and expect to be paid. But you have the freedom to do whatever you feel is necessary. You will suffer the consequences both good and bad.

You can't lead from the rear (or a bunker). Serious change requires serious sacrifice. If this starts a movement and derails CFB he may end up a prominent figure that leads to the changes this movement seeks.

Good for him if he’s successful. Still doesn’t mean that UT should keep him on scholarship.

He’s contributing to the culture and brand of the program.

Please show me where I said they should.
The revocation of his scholarship if he quits the team has been the primary topic of debate here. Another poster or two have suggested UT should or will be crucified if they do so.

He's not playing or contributing he shouldn't be on scholarship. Give it to another deserving young man that will actually contribute to the team
Are you submitting he could not still be a benefit to the team?

What qualifications do you have to make a better judgement than the coaching staff there?

They are correct.

What kind of movement are we talking about? I truly do not believe most blacks condone tit for tat and violence but some can't really can't help it because the liberal media says it's basically OK, violence, looting, etc. They might be following the hate mongering of antifa-esque socialist followers, way to go! Those are merely trying to raise their agenda not to the benefit of African Americans, IMO. We are better than that I think but need to think a little before acting out.

I do appreciate the sincerity and cause of Blacks and African Americans and civil rights. I and most white Americans don't fully understand, I agree, but we are not the problem, the majority of whites anyway.

So the way our country is going now is not the answer. Looting, rioting, and killing of our Police is not the way either. If a player like this, high profile, wants to protest in this way, more power to him. I just hope he/she is sure of his reasons. Unfortunately I feel they are being used by others who wish to condone violence and anarchy, for their misguided agenda.

OK rant over.

They are correct.
Tell me why again please?

Add: Actually I'm sorry. I think I'm out. There is just no benefit in discussing politics or social direction, religion either, on a sports forum.

Tell you why they will get grief? Turn on the tv. Circle back after you are caught up.
